no comments about the last episode?

apparently they're not done with the kevin/dana story =S

Tell me about it. I still tune in because I like 24 but god damn are they trying to make me hate it? lol. The whole Dana subplot is ****ing brutal. There are so many chances for her to just blow it all off but noo, she always gives in so they can milk it as long as they can. Why can't someone just shoot her already. The only part that made me slightly happy was it was Milton who called her, my, my.. my stapler :P

Fox Cancels 24!

20th Century Fox TV and Fox have decided to end the long-running hit after this season, the show's eighth.

Move is not a huge surprise -- but still reps the end of an era for Fox.

The cost of producing "24" has continued to increase, while ratings have dipped. Studio considered shopping "24" to other nets -- but given the thriller's age and price tag, it's believed that the interest from other outlets would have been limited.

What's more, Sutherland and the "24" team have been keen on turning the show into a movie franchise -- but such a move into the features world was considered impossible while production continued on the TV series. (Daily Variety, Feb. 8.)

Twentieth Century Fox's film side recently hired scribe Billy Ray ("State of Play," "Flightplan") to pen the script for the feature version.

Ray's pitch, which takes Jack Bauer to Europe, was a hit with Fox execs and producers of the high-concept television series.

Script is said to have come through "24" star Sutherland, who's also an exec producer on the series -- and is said to be eager to turn the long-running TV skein into a feature franchise.

Feature would be produced by the TV show's key exec producers, including Sutherland. Series was created by Robert Cochran and Joel Surnow, while exec producer Howard Gordon runs the show through his Real Time Prods. banner.

Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment, which produces the show along with 20th Century Fox TV, also would be involved.

This season's "24" takes place in New York. Howard Gordon, Evan Katz, David Fury, Manny Coto, Brannon Braga, Brad Turner, Alex Gansa, Kiefer Sutherland and Brian Grazer are executive producers.

every show comes to this point some where along the line. some shows have a plot that ends which ends the show like lost or prison break and some just keep going until its canceled. I still like 24, but after going back and watching seasons 2,3,4 this past summer I can tell it is no where near as good. I think part of it is that 24 has not changed how they show suspense. I remember back in the day when episodes would end in a clifhanger that was really good and kept you surprised and wanting to watch it week after week, now I just know what to expect already. Its still a good show, but after 8 seasons I know what to expect already, for instance every season there has always been a mole in CTU etc

NBC bid for 24!

24 may live to see another day after all.

Multiple sources confirm to me exclusively that 20th Century Fox has approached NBC about picking up the series should Fox opt to cancel it ? and the Peacock is considering it. ?There?s definitely some interest,? says an insider close to the talks.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that 20th (a.k.a. the studio) and Fox (a.k.a. the network) are nearing a mutual decision to end the serial thriller after eight seasons due to declining ratings and rising costs.

A move to NBC ? while still considered somewhat of a long shot given the hefty price tag ? would likely delay 20th?s plans to launch a Jack Bauer film franchise. From a production standpoint, 24 execs have long maintained that it would ne next to impossible to make a movie while the series was still on the air.

Reps for 20th and NBC declined to comment.

Being a big fan of 24, watching it since season 1 and having all DVD's but i have to say SEASON 8 is my worst, i still watch the episodes every week but just seems to be more drama then action/thriller. Just hope in the next few weeks we get to see some true jack action!

I am also a big fan of 24 and I think I got 24 fatique. I don't believe that Season 8 is bad, it is very good but we have seen it so many times before and we don't get impressed anymore. Having said that, I still want to watch it every week and I believe it is the best show.

NBC just loves ****ing away money lol. It should end after Season 8 and maybe move onto films. Although 1 is probably enough. It's had a long run but you don't want to beat it to death, which it certainly feels like they are doing with Season 8. As much as I love Dexter it will have to come to an end sooner or later. Sopranos could have gone on longer but they told the story they wanted to tell so they ended it. When studios throw money around writers usually scramble to piece together some cluster**** of a story to milk it for another.

As a huge 24 fan, I'm actually glad that they're ending the series now. This season started off okay, but now it's all over the place, the whole Dana/Jenny/Denny story is annoying as hell, and there's not even a good antagonist anymore. The show has already been dragged through the mud pretty badly (I still haven't forgiven them for what they did to Tony's character in season 7), but maybe now it can end somewhat gracefully.

And yeah, I hope NBC isn't serious about picking the show up. Just let it end already.

24 spin-off? Jack and Renee get married, move to Westchester, have 3 kids, and buys a minivan! :D

Ya actually that made me think about "The Shield" If he had a family left at the end of that show they should have spun it off to his first flop before the shield "Daddy'o"

24 spin-off? Jack and Renee get married, move to Westchester, have 3 kids, and buys a minivan! :D

Yea, but terrorist take the neighbors hostage, the mail man has a dirty bomb, Jack has to torture the UPS guy and Chloe works for GeekSquad and just happens to be in Jack's neighborhood when it all goes down.

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
