[C++] logic issues


Question

I'm writing a Basketball stats class that has variables holding rebound, assist and point averages-per-game. The problem is thus:

How do I tell the print function to cout "DOUBLE DOUBLE" when 2 or more averages >= 10? I wrote code for a triple double using this:

if (avgp >= 10&&avga >= 10&&avgr >=10&&avgp >= 10)

but that seems like it would be messy for only 2 avgs. Is there a cleaner way that I'm overlooking?

what are you trying to do? what's avgp, avga, avgr, and avgp? also, how do you calculate a baseball average, sorry i don't watch much sports =P

edit: i think i sorta get what you mean now after re-reading it afew times. make a temp variable x and do boolean statements

int x=0;

if (avgp >= 10) x++;

if (avga >= 10) x++;

if (avgr >= 10) x++;

then do:

if (x>=2)

{

<insert code here>

}

If I understand your problem, you want to know how to write code that will print "DOUBLE DOUBLE" if any two of the variables avgp, avga, avgr >= 10, correct? You also seem to have a requirement for the case where all three are >= 10, correct?

Firstly, the code you gave can be written as:

if (avgp >= 10 && avga >= 10 && avgr >= 10)

since the (avgp >= 10) condition is listed twice.

The simplest way of handling the condition where any two match is:

if ((avgp >= 10 && avga >= 10) ||

(avgp >= 10 && avgr >= 10) ||

(avga >= 10 && avgr >= 10))

{

cout << "DOUBLE DOUBLE";

}

I'm sorry to keep bugging you guys with this, but I've got a last question.

I've got a base class with 2 ints and 3chars in the private section. My Derived classes have a few more ints and some calculated floats. I'm trying to pass the base class privates so that when a derived class is contructed, I can load in values for everything in the constructor. Is this even doable? (I don't know what would be helpful, so code is attatched too)

Here's the main to show what I'm trying to do:

btw, you're leaking memory like a sieve...

athlete* ptr;

ptr = new bbal(...);

ptr->calcFigs();

ptr = new foot(...); // LEAK - bbal ha snot been freed!

ptr->calcFigs();

ptr = new base(...); // LEAK - foot has not been freed!

ptr->calcFigs();

ptr = new judo(...); // LEAK - judo has not been freed!

ptr->calcFigs();

delete ptr; // This call only deletes the judo object. You need to put a delete ptr call after each ptr->calcFigs() call.
