Freka
Hey guys all my downloads in all of my torrents are stuck at 30 kb/s and I think this is due to the fact that my TCP port is not open... I do have a router Linksys. I am new to Macs and I was a noob to begin with in Windows. So how do I open a TCP port in a Mac? Thanks so much for the help Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/809532-how-do-i-open-a-tcp-port/ Share on other sites
Xahid
well, I dont know about Mac's but its a general rule, all the TCP/UDP ports are open by default, you have to close those ports by using firewall ! so I guess, its your router, you have to enable port forwarding ! Espada04
Xahid is correct. Your router is responsible for redirecting traffic from the internet to the computer that made the request. Therefore it acts as a "border patrol" only allowing traffic that meets the rules of entry. TCP Port is controlled on the router side of the computer and/or the firewall side on the computer. By default the Mac doesn't ship with a firewall, unless you have installed a firewall on your mac your router is blocking the data from port you are using for bit torrent. For a linksys router the default router address should be 192.168.1.1 with the default login of admin and if i remember correctly the password should be blank. But it depends your model. Hope that help. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/809532-how-do-i-open-a-tcp-port/#findComment-591413724 Share on other sites
allannyholm
If you have got a book that you got with your router then look in that on how to access the router. My router is a Zyxel for instance and I enter the username and password that I got from my ISP. Once you're in the router settings look for NAT and Port Forwarding. They might be separate or they might be coupled(like mine is) My default settings are login:admin and password:1234 just to give an example. smooth_criminal1990
here will help. Though if you still don't see a speed boost, your ISP could be throttling p2p traffic, so you may want to enable encryption in your bittorrent client. Default admin password may also be password Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/809532-how-do-i-open-a-tcp-port/#findComment-591414020 Share on other sites
svnO.o
This should help you out: http://www.portforward.com/english/applica...r/Utorindex.htm (port forwarding guides for hundreds of router models) Just find your router model and follow the instructions. You can choose your own port in uTorrent and just specify it in your router to foward traffic on that port to your LAN IP.
