What was your LONGEST SESSION on Computer ?

Recommended Posts

In other words, what was the longest period you spent on your computer and\or the longest time you left your PC online or just open without shutting it down, and WHY !

For me, It was 11 days and some hours (3 or 5 not sure), in Summer 2007 when I was downloading a DVD with my 256 kbps "ADSL  " connection from Demonoid and really wanted to get it, and what made me make the session that long without pause\resume was that Demonoid shut-downed at that time a day after I started the download but for some reason the seeders and peers were still there and connected to me even tho the tracker went offline, so I was sure if I disconnected I won't be able to resume the download, and it wasn't expected that Demonoid come back soon, and didn't found that DVD anywhere else.

So, I decided finally just to leave the PC open and connected day and night until the download finish or it shutdowns itself from overheat :shiftyninja: !

After the download finished, I shut-downed my PC and changed the entire fan and the cooler on the processor ! (It was Celeron D 2.4 Ghz  , 512 MiB RAM, running Windows XP SP2 !), also during that time I removed the side of the case and exposed it to direct air for better cooling (later used blower to clean the tons of dust which entered to the case  !)..ah and I didn't stop browsing\chatting like usual during that time  !

How about you guys  ? any stories ?

the single longest session i've ever had in front of a computer was in 2000, and i spent a solid 4 and a half days (108 hours, thats right) on irc continously to push my limits of how long i could stay awake for.

Obviously i went to the toilet and got drinks/food etc but yeah apart from those 5/10 minute "rests", 108 hours is indeed my longest session.

Longest time i've left a computer on for? 6 weeks and a handful of hours (Windows Server 2003 on a spare machine)

The longest time I've left a computer on is about 3 years (okay, it might've shut down once or twice for 5 minutes during a power outage). It's my 500mhz, 128mb ram server (and before it was a server it was a normal desktop PC). Even if the small CPU fan made a lot of noise, it never showed any sign of slowing down. Although it still worked, I eventually realized it was pretty old, so I swapped it for another computer with an 800mhz AMD CPU

I'm ashamed to say I've been on my computer non-stop for over 13 hours today :( I've got a hell of a lot done on Neowin and in other projects, but I've wasted a whole day, in a sense, especially as I had to go out for something earlier and didn't. I haven't even texted my girl back for ages each time today. She texted me 5 hours ago and I've just got distracted by the Internet since then :/

Ha, I'm not usually this bad :D but I guess I've had 3 weeks of non-stop stress and it all finished yesterday, so maybe I deserve to be a big massive lazybum for a day

Longest Time : 1 and 1/2 Month when I wanted to download an ISO on a slow 56kbps connections few years back.

Regularly my machine sleeps for hardly 3 Hours.

you reminded me with the dark days before I got DSL and I was downloading stuff too and browsing with no limits on time  !

How much your phone bill came in the end  ? at least how many digits number it was ?

My computer is ALWAYS connected to the internet, it's always downloading something...

But actual time spent of front of the computer... never more than 10 hours straight, and that's when I have work to do. Otherwise I would never spend more than 3 hours in front of a computer.

I left my main desktop computer running uninterruptedly for about 15 days. I never turn it off, but that was the longest uptime I remember.

Actually using, some days when I'm developing or working I can be 12-15 hours a day. Fortunately, health-wise, that doesn't seem to occur too often.

I had a record uptime of a month on my main PC, now I turn it off when i'm not here. (30% increase in power costs do that to you).

Instead my server downloads everything at night, which is on 24/7. Uptime? Apart from the fact it runs WS2003 and is on a UPS, and is never switched off... Well that answers it right? :p

Longest time I spent on a computer was about six hours straight, I was coding a website (back in the days when you used notepad to make sites), and I just was getting very frustrated at how the template kept screwing up and didn't want to get up until I got it "just right".

The longest time my computer has been on is about a week. I once took a trip out of town and forgot to shut it off :p

at my job; I'm always on a pc for 12hr shifts, mostly just wasting time on the internet (like right now :p)

my longest session for my pc(s) uptime/being online at home... many many months.. i have a media server that is always on, and always downloading my torrents 24/7/365 with UPS. only restarted when updates require, which is rare. Running unRAID as the server OS (18TB of data and counting), with a winXP pro virtualpc session for remote torrent management .

my computer is ON.. all the time.. except for the power outage here in Lahore.. after every 2nd hour :p

so thats how it

well i usually paint alot..

and it takes like 5 6 7 hours continuous....

but that ok

what i once did was

played Ms.PAC MAN.. to set a record and my game went on for 3 straight hours..

after that i made a record i forgot how much..but i played with the speed pac man on..

after 3 straight hours of gameplay.. i got ILL .. :p i had a headache that lasted 3 dayx.. and i was in bed for 2 dayx... lolx

i play alot of FPS.. for even 5 hours or more.. like CS.. but damn it never happened.. mayb i was too under pressure coz i had to break a record.. :p
