Yeah would just like to know how balanced the cloak is..

cloak can get pretty broken in a video game

i'd be surprised if it was anything like the show

just to put things in perspective

in Eve Online:

for 99% of the ships, there are penalties for cloaking:

1) Once cloaked, you cannot use any of the modules on your ship

2) The speed of your ship is reduced by at least 80%

3) NO warping while cloaked

4) Once you decloak, there is a 20 second targeting delay penalty

also, if ANY object comes with in 2500m of your ship you decloak

there are exceptions to the rule. specialized covert ships that can make use of a specific type of cloak that allows them to warp while cloaked and/or have no targeting delay after decloak

to be able to fly a ship that can warp while cloaked, have no targeting delay after decloak AND pretty decent offensive capabilities probably takes at least a year and a half of training

i would imagine that there would be similar restrictions in Star Trek Online to keep things balanced

I hatez you.

I've been in the closed beta for a couple of weeks, but have only played the game for a couple of hours. Their limited testing times really stifle any serious bug finding. Two testing slots per week, with one of them being in the middle of the night on a week day doesn't give much opportunity for testing.

I watch a rather hissy video and the cloak was discussed.

I believe it takes <some> time to cloak and during that time you'll have no shields, prity much like the show.

The only thing that bothers me is the monthly sub, there's no pricing yet. But for Champions Onlie, their other game, there were a lot of issues over billing, especially in the UK. tbh I can't afford a sub like Eve is ?12-13 per month I'd be happy with a more WOW sub of about ?8, I know its only a few ??'s difference but it makes a lot of difference at the end of the month for me.

is this going to require some lame subscription to play it? If so count me out. I believe if you pay for a game that's all you should pay.

so server support, continual patching etc etc, you expect that all to come for free do you and the purchase of the box simply pays for everything? Guess we won't be seeing you in STO, oh well.

is this going to require some lame subscription to play it? If so count me out. I believe if you pay for a game that's all you should pay.

so you believe that all the devs and admins should work for free after you've paid your $60?

where do you think your "lame subscription" goes? it's not like they're taking your money and using it to light cigars

like Raktael said, server maintenance, patching, developing new content, support and probably an entire department to listen to everyone whine and complain about nerf this and that.

i suppose there's another solution, instead of paying a monthly fee they could just charge you $500 for the game

Watched a few YouTube videos and my god, this game looks so bad  Can't wait to try it out at some point to, hopefully, disprove my worries but damn ... 1999 called, they want their game back.

The graphics aren't amazing but the engine also runs champions and so on which also aren't graphically amazing :) but Sethos, to give you the chance, they announced the open beta test dates, end of Jan for the US and 5th Feb for us Europeans so it'll give us a chance to try it before buying it if you're not in the closed beta.

I don't see STO being a long term success in all honesty, but it might get me through to SW Old Republic, fingers crossed.

:shiftyninja:

I'm just worried about the support side of subscriptions for the UK, I looked over champions site and there was a lot of complaints about pricing issues and its not really clear how much ?'s you actually pay. Not even sure if they charge UK in $'s, ?'s or Euro's ... If its euros count me out. Eve-online is Euro's and its works out to be about ?15 per month! I'd be happy with WOW prices of ?8!

Collectors Edition Goodness

Well the CE has been announced and it has some interesting goodies in there, so far it's only been confirmed really in the US and thats through gamestop obviously, but strangely, a brief appearance yesterday of the CE version appeared on gamestops UK counterpart 'Game' but since this morning this has vanished from their website. This could be mean Game will supply the UK counterpart, but this has also happened before and hey had to remove it because play.com got it exclusively (Warhammer Online CE) so it's just waiting to see what happens.

Anyway, lets move onto what you actually get inside the box and extra:

?Deep Space Nine? Uniform: Uniform Options from the ?Deep Space Nine? Series. Grey shoulders, on a black uniform, just like Sisko, Worf and Dax

Some interesting goodies in there, the Uniforms and Red Matter do sound cool, would like to be whizzing around wearing a:DS9 Uniform :D

I just wish they had more EU related information, I feel left out!

I've been following this over the past year and only in the past month I've been checking for news daily.

No subscription info

No pre-order Beta / Bonus Info

So no pre-order from me! even though I can only find it on Play!

I know exactly what you mean mate, as I said the CE version appeared briefly on Game's site before being taken down, I did put in a pre-order, but I'm guessing that will have vanished too. All the news on the official forums/site say is 'coming soon' for the EU pre-order information, I am guessing they are trying to wrangle some good exclusive deals no doubt.

    • Not such a great deal, Ultimate, which gives you full 5080 features is $181.99 CAD per month, that's $2183.88 per year, I can buy the 5080 for $1809.99 CAD, then it goes up to $279.99 per month after the first billing cycle. Typical cloud rental, costs more than buying the hardware.
    • Wow, spoken like a true blind hater, you don't even provide arguments. Please, go check my comment above to @seacaptain and you'll find out why what you say doesn't make sense in this context...
    • Get used to this, with AI tooling now uncovering new vulns and getting them exploitable far faster than has ever been possible before software is going to need to be updated far more frequently. Back in the day it may take reseachers weeks or months to do what AI can now do in hours. Once its a threat is discovered it's weaponsized far more quickly, meaning you simply can't be waiting 2, 3, 4 weeks to deploy a patch, it needs to be patched immediately. Going to be interesting handling this in the enterprise space where traditionally patching has been steady, but very staged (and rightly so up until now), that is going to have to change.
    • You don't need to "close all browser sessions constantly" or wait for updates to install. The updates download in the background while you use the browser, without interrupting you, they install automatically the next time you launch the app. And they install very fast (depending on your storage speeds, of course), you have to wait at most 2-3 extra seconds, if any. Seems like you haven't used Edge in a loooooooong time...
