Hey all,

so yesterday i spent about 3 hours fighting a virus my sister downloaded to her computer. My dad wanted to help and got is laptop infected too and god knows how much i love fighting viruses through logmein..

How can i configure vista to block any kind of exe, zip, inf, dll downloads?

I saw there's an option build in vista to block all files from downloading but its not what i'm looking for.

Thanks

You could set him up on a restricted User account

Or you could update your Host file (this won't stop exe's so forth but it will help)

You could also make sure that he always updates his Antivirus and also runs regular malware scans

The best option by far is just to teach him what not to download ;)

It's restricted and the antivirus is updated by me all the time. I explained over and over but on the weekends when i come home i still find files on the desktop called NOKIA.EXE etc'.. I just need a software that can block certain traffic from the user, im sure someone'will have a good recommendation.

By chance is he using a Torrent or some other download helper program?

This may be the root cause of the issue

I still believe education (and restricted user account) is the best option

Not a Child safe program running in the background. He's a grown adult that must take responsibility for his actions.

Maybe warn him next time you'll book it in to a computer tech shop to fix it, that may quickly change his habits ;)
