OS X Image editing software

Aside from photoshop, what are some good image editing programs that I can get for free or at least get a free trial of?

It's utterly frustrating dealing only with Preview, Grab, and GraphiConverter.

:/ you can get a free trial of photoshop from apple.com... its really a full version... just stops working. i dont about anything else. all i use is photoshop.. and whats this about paying?? ;D

Some of us have to buy our software because we use our computers for work and would catch some heat from the BSA if we were using illegal copies. Other's just plain don't want to be criminals.

If you've got fink installed you could grab GIMP, it's free (as in speech and beer) and it works very well. IMHO it's not as nice as photoshop but kicks the crap out of Paintshop Pro.

I would recommend the GIMP also. Like evn said, it's not as nice as Photoshop, but it's awesome considering you don't have to pay a dime for it.

dont want to steal your thread, but is there a ms paint like app for osx? pretty much the same features and the simple ui?

I've used GIMP w/ Mandrake, and it's nice. How would I go about finding if I have fink installed and installing it if I don't?

i use painter myself, jack most likely you wont have it installed, so you will have to download x11 or xdarwin and fink, you can tell if you go to your hd and have a directory in the root labelled sw

you have fink installed if you have a /sw directory on your os x partition, chances are you'd remember installing. It's basicly a port of debians apt-get that works on os x.

make sure you install the following as well if you haven't already:

Developer Tools

Apple's X11

The X11 SDK

then when you get fink installed doing "fink install gimp" in terminal will probably be all you need to do.
