Keyboard shift-key problem

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm having a problem with my shift, alt and ctrl keys:

Kay, so my problem is: I cannot hold/press my CTRL or SHIFT button while moving with WASD. I must STOP completely and wait a few seconds before I can use them. And if I try releasing it while in crouch or walk, it won't revert my movement back to normal until I release WASD. Which is honestly REALLY annoying. My keyboard is HP Wireless Keyboard (Model 5189URF). This problem also occurs during other games like America's Army, Maplestory, etc. Any help is appreciated!

Further explanation:

Input = Output

Pressing k = k

Holding Shift + Pressing k = K

Holding Shift + Holding k = KKKKKKKKKKKK

Happens: Holding Shift + Holding k + Releasing Shift = KKKKKKKKKKKK

Expected: Holding Shift + Holding K + Releasing Shift = KKKKKKKKkkkkk

Please help!

Thanks

Sounds like the keyboard buffer is getting overloaded, or it could possibly be related to the fact that it is communicating via a wireless signal to the computer, you might just be getting a few ms of lag between the keyboard and the wireless receiver. You could try going to the control panel and choosing keyboard:

Try adjusting the delay and see if that makes any difference, also have you tried to replicate this problem using a wired keyboard?

If that keyboard is similar to the one that came with my HP, then it's just the keyboard's fault. I read something a while ago that it deals with the wiring of the keyboard itself and there is no way to remedy this. It's something similar to the quirk where if you keep both shift keys held down and try to type the alphabet, some letters won't work while others will.

But anyway, my old HP keyboard had something similar. In a game (FPS for this example), if I were going forward and diagonal to the right(so, holding W and D down), and tried to run or walk by holding shift, it just wouldn't register the shift button. Also, if I were holding shift and going forward, and tried to go diagonal to the right, it wouldn't register the D key. Very, very annoying.

I eventually just got a new keyboard, the HP Wireless Elite Keyboard which I liked because of the laptop-style and silent keys, and it works fine.

If the keyboard has always worked like this, then this is the most likely problem.
