This is a big one folks!

While I do still plan on finishing the Localhostr Uploadr in Cocoa, something about the widget didn't feel right to me on Snow Leopard. So I pulled out my Webkit guide, looked at some CSS3, and did something about it. And here's the result (before and after):

There's a number of changes visible here, but there's a lot underneath too. You can visit the site and get the basics on what's new, but I need a formal changelog anyway, so I'll attach it here.

- Thumbnails on image files, along with a mask to keep it pretty (and matching the Windows program)

- New history area, rid of the "Copy URL" button and opting for a "click to copy" on the whole file area.

- Height of items in the history is shorter, meaning you can fit more in less space

- Improved animations, using Safari 4's new CSS3 support

- Improved scroll area, also using Safari 4's CSS3 support. This is noticeable as scrolling is not emulated by JavaScript, but is actually native while maintaining the styled scrollbar

- Much improved speed, as a result of adoption of CSS3, as well as significant amount of cleanup on the code

- Startup is near immediate from a cold Dashboard startup, an annoyance that I'm sure plagued many in past releases

- Logged in icon at the bottom left, so you know if you're logged in or not by looking at the front of the widget (see lock in the screenshot)

- Snow Leopard support

- New effect for dragging a file over the widget. This is buggy, and will always be buggy, because of a bug in Dashboard/Webkit itself. I will be filing a bug report, but you will notice the effect flicker. The "plus" cursor also didn't want to work once I moved to Snow Leopard, which is part of what prompted the new "glow" effect.

- Fixed bug where the wrong day would be shown in the date

- Fixed bug where long titles and dates would run into a second line, messing up the format

This release has become a major one. When I started it I just wanted to work in some basic Snow Leopard support, but as I looked into solutions to some of my problems I found some CSS3 properties I felt there would be a large benefit from, and then I got new ideas.

The changelog could be a lot larger if I put some more thought into it, but you'll just have to download the widget and try it out for yourselves!

Please note that if you had the widget installed before, you will probably have to click the i icon in the bottom left and click "Clear History". The update should trigger an "Update Available" message for current users, as well.

You could open up registrations, you wouldn't believe how many PM's I get asking for them :p

Oh believe me, I would. They're the only kind of PM I get these days :(

For those wondering why it hasn't been opened up, it's largely due to financial and legal constraints. A paid service would be viable, but I doubt there would be a sufficient number of sign ups to make it worthwhile.

Does this widget work if you're not a member of the site that's being talked about?

I ask because I used to use something called QuickShareIt, which works but now uses "short" URLs that don't parse anywhere properly.

Yes it does.

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.

    • Not sure what country you’re in but in many countries you can absolutely jail the sellers behind businesses… in fact I’d say in most countries you can do that
    • I guess we are done since you refuse to read my comment you replied to or my other comment in another thread you were also a part of here.
