Windows 7 boot screen uses Vista boot screen on netbook?

Hi guys, I've got myself a nice Toshiba NB200 netbook and partitioned it to dual boot XP and Windows 7. However, I noticed the boot screen seems to be the one that Vista uses instead of the nice Windows 7 one. Any idea why and how to fix it?

What's your experience with netbooks using Windows 7?

Also, does anyone here have a NB200 (NB205 in the US)? Just want to ask if yours has the battery time remaining in Windows (XP or otherwise)? I noticed mine only shows % remaining which is not useful enough by itself.

I believe if your native resolution is smaller than 1024x768 is uses the old boot screen.

Ah I see. Its running at 1024x600. It seems odd that they would force that boot screen on netbooks/really tiny screens.

Is there a way to bypass it or modify it?

I don't think it's odd, it most probably wouldn't actually fit. Which also means there is probably no way to change that either.

Yeah I guess the top/bottom bit would be cut out. Apparently there's youtube videos of Windows 7 (beta or rc) booting with the regular boot screen on some MSI and Asus netbooks. Maybe there is hope. :)

Happened to me when i didn't do a clean install, Maybe its something you could try

They probably have a slightly higher resolution. I get the old boot screen on my Eee 1008HA.

That happened on my desktop before, quite weird. Possibly something to do with the interaction with the Vista bootloader and I don't know what I'm on about now.

It was the 9" Asus netbook. So the resolution is probably just as low. He mentioned that he upgraded the bios to one from another netbook (maybe an 11" one) to get it to work.

Lol. You've actually hit the nail with the boot thing. I found some entries that you can enter in command prompt that could fix the boot screen without formatting and doing a clean install.

I have a 19" screen , with res of 1440x900 , other specs are as follows

P4 2.8GHz

768mb ram

nVIDIA FX5500

i know its a old pc , but when i tried windows 7 on it , i too encountered with the same prob. Contradictorily there are many videos which have that animated boot even with specs lower than mine

I cant understand why it is happening (since First beta tho) and when i tried same installation files to install 7 in my lappy (Core2Duo , 4gb ram) it WAS showing the famous animated boot

i can see no reason as of why this is occurring

EDIT : CMD entries couldn't fix it in my case

Hmm, does anyone know about the battery issue? I've downloaded a third party program to monitor the life but I'd like my Windows to be able to do it.

Right click the battery icon on the task bar and open up the Windows Mobile Center and you'll have a battery metre in there.

The problem is my netbook shows the battery % only and not the time remaining like how most laptops are. So I have no idea how long it lasts (until I used the program). It seems weird a simple program and Ubuntu can do it but not Windows. So my gut feeling is that its a driver issue.

I was trying to find a fix for that to no avail and it seems nobody with a NB200 has ever mentioned this. I only found out some old eeePCs use a "dumb" battery which doesn't allow it to be calculated but the new ones have no such issue. So seeing as to how this Toshiba is even more recent than those eeePCs I'd thought it would be not an issue unless the manufacturer is being cheap with their batteries.

Bull***t. I used Win 7 on Samsung Q1 (800x480) and it didn't show Vista's boot.

OP is the distro original from MS?

Yup. Got it off technet and have installed it on my laptop, PC and netbook. However, for my laptop and PC I used a DVD while for the netbook I had to install it with an external hard drive (same ISO though).

I installed from USB stick and no problems occurred.

The boot screen on your PC and laptop is ok?

Yup never had a problem with my other installs. Only this netbook has the problem with the boot screen. I have not tried doing a full format and install since I want to keep the Windows XP and recovery partition if the need ever arises.

On displays with little resolutions youll get the old vista boot screen. Cant tell the exact resolution required for the new one, but thats a fact, as pointed out by official windows team blog some time ago. Though there may be some workarounds i highly doubt.

But, why it so important? I mean, it just the boot screen, there is no functionality attached to it.

I'm sure your Notebook as something incompatible/problematic for the bootscreen and then it fall back.

Hey, its something new and SHINY. Dammit, it needs to work the way something new and shiny should (and if W7 is everything it is cracked up to be, than the Vista boot screen is an insult ;) ).

Lol. I feel that way too. There's so many netbooks out there and they're outselling laptops I believe. So why can't they make something that works with netbooks?

Sorry for reviving a 2month old thread but is there any hack to bypass the limit of 1024x600 res? I'm going to get an HP Mini 1151NR from a friend as a gift and because he was going to throw it out in favor of a notebook. The resolution is 1024x576 so I'm sure there is a way to go a little lower by 14 pixels.
