supposedly, the public alpha is sept. 22 :)

i know i'll be downloading that. i've been waiting for soooo long

www.cairoshell.com

They just picked sept 22 hoping ODST's release would overshadow them postponing it again.

edit: look at this notice from their site:

'Enable Desktop' is disabled.

The desktop icons are not functional with M1, please continue to use the desktop provided by Windows Explorer.

Taskbar buttons may overflow and not be accessible.

Taskbar buttons do not turn white when activated and may do so only intermittently.

Clicking an active taskbar button does not minimize it.

The taskbar does not populate once Cairo is started. You must activate any open applications for them to appear in the taskbar.

Items may disappear from the Windows taskbar when running Cairo. (Windows 7 users- You can avoid this by selecting the Always Combine option in the Windows Taskbar Control Panel.)

The White Menu Bar option is not available.

Not all tray icons will appear in the Cairo system tray area.

Newly installed or uninstalled programs may or may not show up in the AppGrabber until Cairo is restarted.

Many items are incomplete in this build.

This seems like Vapourware to me, they where promising an Alpha release not that long after Vista RTMed. Nearly 3 years later, we are still waiting for it. Taking 3 years to get a releasable alpha makes Microsoft's XP to Vista progress look speedy

A little more time and it might just pass Duke Nukem Forever.

always called fail on this project, the "project managers" always were a bunch of arrogant nobodys who had their own ideas about how to manage an IT project. Normally that wouldn't be such a bad thing, lots of hobby projects are run this way and people learn from them. However I lost all respect from them when they started accepting donations and remained a closed source project. Those people giving donations have been ripped of imho.

    • Yes for me, I installed 'old calculator' (Windows 7 calculator) in its place since it is more useful to me. I think paint is the only one I left installed
    • eh I'll wait for the June 2026 MVS ISO downloads which should be coming out next Tuesday June 16 and possibly contain build 8655 instead of 8653

    • Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 PC case is now 33% off on Amazon by Ivan Jenic The Cooler Master MasterFrame 600 is currently $109.99 on Amazon, down from its original $164.99 list price. That's 33% off and $55 saved on this premium aluminum mid-tower case with a modular design. If you're upgrading your PC case and want something that doesn't force you into a rigid layout, the MasterFrame 600 is worth a look. The case is built around the Cooler Master's FreeForm 2.0 platform, which lets you reconfigure the internal structure according to your hardware. Magnetic side panels allow for straightforward adjustments, and the case supports everything from Mini-ITX to E-ATX motherboards without compromise. There's also generous cooling headroom. Four pre-installed PWM fans handle airflow out of the box. GPU clearance goes up to 410mm, and the case supports radiators up to 420mm with room for three simultaneously. Truth be told, this might not be the prettiest case on the market, but it’s highly functional. The aluminum construction keeps the whole thing lightweight despite its size, and the finish looks noticeably better than the plastic mid-towers competing at this price point. If you want a serious, flexible case that prioritizes function over flashy aesthetics like RGB lighting, the MasterFrame 600 delivers at a reasonable price.
