The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Revealed

Recommended Posts

An internal video showcasing The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has emerged on YouTube (we've got our own version above). The footage, introduced by CD Projekt CEO Marcin Iwinski, is quite impressive for an alpha-state project, especially when it comes to the combat. By adding Havok physics, CD Projekt has increased the game's range of offensive spells and the ability to destroy things spectacularly.

CD Projekt RED CEO Adam Kiciński offered this statement to Joystiq in response to the video leak:

"Of course, we can't and won't try to deny the facts. The movie that appeared on the various sites yesterday presents our newest project, The Witcher 2, which we've been working on for some time. We made something about half year ago, to present the first playable version of the game. Currently we are looking for a potential publisher (or publishers) for this title, and this leak is an uncontrolled side effect of that process. For today, we are not commenting on anything that concerns the game itself.

"More information about The Witcher 2 will be unveiled alongside the official announcement."

It was on the very same page dude...

Geez, you don't have to be so green with envy. /joke

I didn't notice your story. I'm sure a mod will come along and merge my post with yours since yours superceded mine. Don't get so frustrated. >_>

Bilingual Polish gaming news site Polygamia recently did us English-speakers a great kindness by attending a CD Projekt presentation on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, translating its findings into our native tongue. According to Polygamia, CD Projekt's Michał Kiciński and Marcin Iwiński revealed that the RPG is being developed using an "internal, multi-platform engine," which they hope will become "the vanguard among game engines, and especially RPG engines."

CD Projekt's goals for the title are as lofty as you might expect -- the team claimed the The Witcher 2 will handily net an "over 90% score at Metacritic." However, before that happens, the game has to get made. The two developers explained that the studio is currently in talks with publishers and hoped to finalize distribution plans by Q1 2010.

Additionally, some footage managed to leak out of the closed presentation, which we've posted after the jump. However, unless you're a diehard fan of the first Witcher, we recommend skipping it, lest you be forced to suffer seven minutes of severe thoracic discomfort. You'll see what we mean.

meh, i didn't really ever get into the first one at all even though I'm a fan of RPGs in general :(.

First time I tried the first one I didn't like it. Decided to give it a second chance a few weeks ago (before DA:O hit) and gave it more time than the last (first time through I quit before I left the castle in the beginning), decided to play through the beginning and into the next area. Had tons of fun with it once I got past the castle, the intro is very boring compared to the rest of the game. Loved the story and the gameplay was rather unique, combined it got me playing the game through the entire story once I got going on it.

Now I'm definitely going to try it :).

Yeah I dont think you were alone, alot of people who had trouble witht he original (due to bugs, requirements etc) gave up pretty quickly. Enhanced edition fixed most of that and added some new stuff, I was fortunate my original copy worked from the get go, and I loved the game cant wait for number 2. Whilst fundamentally different you can draw alot of parallels between the witcher and Dragon Age Origins. If you liked the witcher and havent played DA:O I would recommend it.

Just finished the video, looks a bit better than the original. Better graphics, more interactive combat (the original was slightly boring with combat, click when the sword lights up to chain moves, repeat until enemy is dead, maybe cast a few spells, TW2 seems to improve this with environmental kills, QTE for bosses, and a reason to actually use the dodging ability), and a few other things, such as NPCs doing normal things.......in the original everything seems scripted, which is fine for a single-player MMO, but the more dynamic the more fun it is. Its funny in the video they blow back/destroy some wooden crates w/ a spell, and a bunch of NPCs take notice and wonder what the hell happened, stating they didn't do it, etc. :p

Doesn't look like a huge improvement over the original, but a new storyline (or extension of the original) with better graphics and gameplay features are enough to get me to look forward to getting it, I remember finishing the original a few weeks ago and instantly wanting a sequel, good timing on this leak....wonder when the game will come out. :p

Remember that was an Alpha preview. I think theres still alot of polish and more features to come yet but yeah they could have used the original engine and not improved a thing and id buy it just for the storyline tbh.

By new ideas maybe they will have optional fully interactive sex scenes.

As for the second question he answered, I think it will be good to have the world more interactive than it was, NPCs will actually care when you grab stuff out of their house.

    • I like to reminisce about the good old days, way back in autumn 2025 when building a gaming machine was fun and the drives were about $150 when you caught a deal. Yes duh, back in the day we had it gone. Then baby Skynet came along, hiding in AI datacenters demanding more processing power until it reached singularity. End of a not totally fictional story.
    • My experience in the past with older Windows 11 builds was not great on unsupported machines but I recently used Rufus to put the latest build on a older 5th Gen Core Thinkpad T that we upgraded with a SATA SSD and 8GB of RAM four years ago when hardware was reasonable and it seemed pretty fast and solid. Customer is very happy with the performance and will probably get four more years out of that venerable laptop that he loves so much. Another customer just retired his Dell Studio laptop from 2009 running Windows 10. It got an SSD over 10 years ago and did everything he needed it to for 17 years but he also retired last year and is happy doing everything on his iPad now.
    • Apple's newest AirTag 2 gets first big discount by Taras Buria In late January 2026, Apple introduced its second-generation AirTag trackers, bringing a refresh to the old model that has been on the market for half a decade. Now, you can get these new trackers at an all-time low price, thanks to the first big discount that brought the price down by 17% on Amazon. While the second-generation AirTag looks identical to its predecessor, it packs meaningful upgrades inside. The second-gen ultrawideband chip works 50% farther than the original AirTag, allowing you to detect lost items in a wider range. In addition, the second-generation AirTag features an upgraded Bluetooth chip for extended range and a significantly louder speaker (up to 50%) so that you can hear it better when locating a lost item. Note that the second-gen AirTag only works with iPhones and iPads that run iOS/iPadOS 26 and newer, so you need a compatible device to use the tracker. Like the original AirTag, the AirTag 2 is available in two packs: one and four pieces. Both are now available at a notable discount on Amazon, and you can purchase them using the links below. • I've been on Deezer for over a decade, but glad that Tidal joined them in fighting AI slop. Can't stand such takes as Spotify's: "Spotify's CEO recently pushed back against listeners who call AI music "slop," urging people to stop using the term and instead embrace the creative potential of AI music."
    • “Could” … in the IS the healthcare is run by insurance companies that make indecent profits denying basic treatments to people that are paying money for nothing. Besides, where are all the Trump epigones who were stating that the tariffs were going to paid by foreign companies and not the US citizens? …
