Why is my i7 not overclocking

Recommended Posts

Well my specs are as follows:

CPU: Intel Core i7 920

GFX Card: Geforce GTX 260

RAM: 6GB DDR3

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS RAMPAGE 2 EXTREME

Power Supply: Corsair TX Series, 650 Watt, ATX, PS/2, Power Supply, UK Version (CMPSU-650TXUK)

My CPU is currently at 920 @ 2.67GHz, it had been previously overclocked but for some reason it's running at that and thats confirmed by CPU-Z.

I tried a minimal overclock today, tried to get it to 3.00GHz, increased my voltage from my power supply and it failed, any ideas on what im doing wrong?

something like thermal master cooling, I think I had it overclocked to 3.6GHz (mate done it so not too sure), and i adjusted the power supply voltage setting and the normal overclocking settings.

my specs are very similar to these, and i followed what he done, just never overclocked it as much, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJOyZ0tTt30

if i follow that guide to exact what he does, should it work? il give it a try once i get back from college

Increasing the voltages is not going to give you a faster frequency on your cpu... it is only going to provide it with more power for stability.

you need to adjust the FSB or Multiplier in order to get an overclock.

thats the thing, i done exactly what he done, i changed the BCLK frequency and the DRAM frequency, then changed the CPU voltage, what else do i need to do to get it right? sorry im not an expert at all of this :s

Overclocking is not as easy as copying the settings of a setup that might be similar to yours. Every piece of individual hardware is different and responds differently when being overclocked. I have had some good luck with my i7s, but only after spending a lot of time experimenting with different settings. You should really read up on overclocking the i7 before you continue.

    • I'm not aware of this issue, but to help the other guys.  What version of Android are you using? Did you try a different browser? To see if Edge is the issue here.
    • I agree when are you going to read this (really poor BTW) article? Here is a better article so you actually know what is going on and answers questions you had in other comments --> https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2026/05/speed-boosting-low-latency-profile-is-one-of-the-improvements-coming-to-windows-11/ It is unclear if one will be able to disable the new profile at this point but I am not seeing any reason why one would.
    • I disagree; they come off very "bitchy" and "whiny". Make a great product and combine that with a great price (free) and people will come over to your side. Or build it and they will come as they say. Constantly trying to get attention by complaining all the time, will turn people off to your product.
    • It use to be a nightmare, with LibreOffice supporting a newer draft ODF standard by default, and Microsoft Office supporting the older non-draft standard. Now that they both support the same version of ODF, they should be interoperable.
