World Rally Championship Title Announced

Following first vague info on a new multi-platform World Rally Championship title that has been floating around the net for a few months, the new WRC title has been officially announced.

Published by Milan-based Black Bean Games and developed by Milestone, the new title will bring the World Rally Championship action to the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 in 2010. Black Bean Games secured the rights for an official WRC title from ISC, exclusive commercial and media rights holder of the championship.

?The official WRC game will engage a whole new audience for the sport and we?re tremendously excited at the opportunities to grow our fan base and the profile of the WRC. It provides a hugely powerful touch point for us in which to showcase the WRC to consumers, and it will be the most realistic and playable rally game of all time. We chose to work with Black Bean Games because they have a proven track record making top level games with the official license in two-wheel motorsport.?, ISC?s Simon Long commented.

This marks the return of the WRC to the PC and other consoles as past WRC titles from Sony have been confined to the Playstation platform. No further info on the title?s content and features have been revealed yet.

last Black Bean game i played was Evolution GT, didnt even complete 5% of the game, boring, crappy physics, useless non skipable p.o.s cutscenes.

tracks & cars were beautiful tho.

Grid, Dirt 2, NFS Shift have adopted few features from Evo GT.

like the blurred vision after crash, race rewind...

1st Hands on - VVV visit Milestone and roadtest WRC

Moving to the PC with G27, ah this is more like it, working properly and it instantly feels fantastic, the traction effortlessly conveyed, still a bumpy run the wheel makes for an exceptionally physical experience. Progressive acceleration worked well while more aggressive use of the power makes for a far greater level of risk. As ever rally is always balancing on that knife edge and WRC is no exception, I'm looking to find more speed, cut a corner, use the positive camber, making the best of it. Alas again I push too hard, clipping a barrier (which is damaged in the incident) and damaging my car, this having a profound effect on the handling and effectively ruining my stage time. But it's great to feel a game that's so intuitive at this stage, every mistake is my fault, visually matching the effects of gradients exactly.

Published by Black Bean Games, the game will be available across the world for the first time on PlayStation?3, Xbox360? videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft? and PC formats.

Black Bean, and their in-house development studio Milestone, are two of the most respected names in motorsport gaming, and were behind the highly rated SBK Superbike championship and MotoGP games.

Simon Long, North One Sport CEO, said: “The official WRC game will engage a whole new audience for the sport and we’re tremendously excited at the opportunities to grow our fan base and the profile of the WRC. It provides a hugely powerful touch point for us in which to showcase the WRC to consumers, and it will be the most realistic and playable rally game of all time. We chose to work with Black Bean Games because they have a proven track record making top level games with the official license in two-wheel motorsport.”

Virgilio Bixio, Black Bean Games President, said: “We are particularly proud to bring the WRC franchise back into the videogames arena after so many years of absence. Milestone has been working hard on this title and our expectations are really high. We will be able to provide the utmost competitive title that will provide extremely positive results. Furthermore, Milestone’s work is enriched by the overwhelming support we have received from the WRC community.”

Black Bean announced a few principle elements of the game at the launch of the 2010 World Rally Championship in Paris:

  • Official locations, drivers and co-drivers will be featured. The game's thought out to give the player the feeling of taking part in a real championship.
  • Complete career mode
  • Unique online and offline modes
  • 13 different worldwide locations
  • Ultra-realistic physics
  • Vehicle customisation, adaptable to each track
  • Breath-taking visuals with stunning backgrounds
  • Improved vehicle damage visuals.

There's still a lot more to come...

Snore...

Honestly, I really do hope this is a brilliant game. Bring rallying back to its WRC roots, and not the crap DiRT 2 has decided is more important.

  • 4 months later...

I noticed it at E3, even tweeted about it. Looking very nice, even if gfx aren't the best they aren't the most important thing when it comes to racers. Controls & handling > *

Which is why DiRT 2 was so bloody awful. Looked great, had lame events to cater for the US and awful controls. I hate what X-Games is doing to WRC, even more when it effects the games.

I won't, I'm really looking forward to it. There is a huge gap in the market for WRC and I really doubt GT5 is going to come close to filling that void.

A full fledged title is needed, and seeing as CM has literally gone to dirt, this is the next best hope.

Same goes for F1 2010.

the cockpit cam needs more details, it looks like as if from Half Life 1 era :p

Release Date: October 8, 2010
Platforms: Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC

I hope we can do atleast the Scandinavian flick in the game.

Looks good, just a few things:

1. I knew the game wouldn't look really crisp, but the dust effects are pretty awful. Of course, you don't see that when you're driving along, but the replays won't look good at all if they don't sort it.

2. The in-car cockpit view reminds me of something from TOCA - the hands just look odd.

3. That roll right at the end of the trailer better not be an indication of over-the-top crash physics.

Even so, it's kept my interest.

    • Honestly that feels even more useless than it did when Win11 was first released. In 2021, the uproar was somewhat justified, but only when comparing how good we've had it since Windows 7. Prior to that, a new Windows release would often require new, or very recent hardware. Windows XP wouldn't run (in any usable way) on hardware released when it's predecessor Win98 was released (let's ignore ME). It was time to shift the goal post, and the way Microsoft did that was actually ok. People have still had another FIVE YEARS of free software support with Windows 10, and those of us who want to have used these tools to bypass the limitations, all while understanding the impacts that may have. Most laptops don't last 5 years (sadly), so now the youngest unsupported hardware is 9 years old, and apparently has another year of support with Windows 10. That's good. Meanwhile, understanding the impacts and limitations, I have my 2013 laptop running Win11 perfectly fine. The thing that's failing on it is the hardware, the 2.5" SATA cable/chip is failing and corrupting the SSDs I put in. Thankfully it has a functional M.2 sata drive that works fine!
    • iPhone 18 Pro drop-test video and photos leak on the dark web following a data breach by Hamid Ganji iPhone 17 Pro - Image via Apple Apple is seemingly facing one of the biggest data breaches in its history, and just a few months before the official debut of the iPhone 18 Pro series, photos, a drop-test video, a supplier list, and key phone components have reportedly been leaked by hackers. Last week, we reported that Tata Electronics, an Apple supplier and iPhone producer in India, was hit by a data breach. As a result, it was reported that more than 200,000 trade secrets and confidential documents belonging to Apple and Tesla were stolen by the ransomware group World Leaks. According to Reuters, the group has now leaked supplier lists, component details, and photos of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models on the dark web. One of the materials leaked by the hackers is a drop-test video of the iPhone 18 Pro, which is due to launch this September. The phone is shown in a gray color and has the same familiar design we saw on last year's iPhone 17 Pro series. The device also appears to be quite durable, though it seems to be thicker than last year's model. One possible explanation is that Apple may be using a larger battery in the iPhone 18 Pro series. Moreover, Reuters says it has seen at least six documents mapping many components in the iPhone 18 Pro models to their respective suppliers, including details on chips on the main circuit board and on battery and camera components. The documents reportedly detail hundreds of parts that will be used in the iPhone 18 Pro models. A person familiar with the matter told the outlet that Apple classifies this data as sensitive and “is concerned about the documents being shared on the dark web as they relate to unreleased models.” Apple is reportedly investigating the issue but has yet to issue an official statement.
    • You do you, I've just said that it first appeared in "home" version before it will be available in "work" one. I use Edge only because it still supports MV2 uBO extension even on Android - I'll switch when they stop.
    • I imagine that was a review or something? My reviews mostly contain a lot of images and galleries, but these are all webp too, but yeah it all adds up on the page load. Would help if you were more helpful with your critique instead of bitching and moaning like a Karen 😂 Because then we might be able to fix it for you.
    • If Valve refused to let them make the case, I wonder if they've already partnered with someone else to do it? The fact that they didn't seek permission/licence before diving straight in is incredible though
