1st Hands on - VVV visit Milestone and roadtest WRC

Moving to the PC with G27, ah this is more like it, working properly and it instantly feels fantastic, the traction effortlessly conveyed, still a bumpy run the wheel makes for an exceptionally physical experience. Progressive acceleration worked well while more aggressive use of the power makes for a far greater level of risk. As ever rally is always balancing on that knife edge and WRC is no exception, I'm looking to find more speed, cut a corner, use the positive camber, making the best of it. Alas again I push too hard, clipping a barrier (which is damaged in the incident) and damaging my car, this having a profound effect on the handling and effectively ruining my stage time. But it's great to feel a game that's so intuitive at this stage, every mistake is my fault, visually matching the effects of gradients exactly.
Now a chance on the XB360 with a pad, and I'm finally handed some head phones, an instant difference now I can hear my co-driver and actually predict the corners. From struggling with understeer, suddenly it clicks, I'm really starting to feel the handling. If I was to compare it, I would say it reminds me of Colin McRae 1 and 2 releases in the late 90's, the inertia feels right, especially on the looser surfaces. Then there's the judicious use of the handbrake, critical in hairpins and some negative camber corners where understeer can really affect section times. Racing in Sweden, Finland, then Jordan, each stage have their unique challenges and it will be interesting to see how the settings affect the skill required. In a perfect world the sim setting should prove the greatest risk/reward, ultimately making for better stage times with experienced gained, that's something we'll have to test on a later version.

that CMR1 & 2 comment put a smile on my face.

New batch of WRC screenshots

New screenshots of the upcoming game WRC from Black Bean have emerged, showing environments, cars and the menus.

What we don’t see from these batch of screenshots is whether there’s going to be more than Ford, Citroen and Skoda in the main WRC portion of this game; hopefully not, otherwise this game will be immensly boring (a little hint there Black Bean).

The game is due for release on 8th October on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

How many cars do you expect in an WRC-only game?

At least some of the past cars, like old SAAB ones or something in a nostalgia type mode or something. Just a little bit disappointing, but it might not be helped by the 200 unique cars in GT5.

Well, as much as I like seeing a new WRC game, I'm not having much faith in it, seeing as Milestone are developing it. They can't create a good on-road racing game (on two wheels or four), but maybe they can create a good off-road one. I won't dismiss it entirely. Hopefully there will be a demo.

WRC Hands-On - http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/wrc-hands-on

It's also looking more and more like a success. At E3, WRC's handling had the right feel, but was often unpredictable. Weeks later in Milan it's taking shape beautifully. I try the game on Finnish dirt, Swedish snow, Jordanian sand and German tarmac, and grip is finely modulated, progressive and surprisingly subtle, with noticeable rather than pronounced surface feedback. The swishing, graceful slides on snow are particularly delicious and easier to control than some games' representation of power-sliding on tarmac. On a console pad, with some driving aids turned on, it's a surprisingly accessible; on a steering wheel (WRC will support every wheel imaginable) with the aids removed it will bite your hand off. But, crucially - and unlike, say, the difference between such set-ups in Forza 3 - it feels like the same game each time.

    • iPhone 18 Pro drop-test video and photos leak on the dark web following a data breach by Hamid Ganji iPhone 17 Pro - Image via Apple Apple is seemingly facing one of the biggest data breaches in its history, and just a few months before the official debut of the iPhone 18 Pro series, photos, a drop-test video, a supplier list, and key phone components have reportedly been leaked by hackers. Last week, we reported that Tata Electronics, an Apple supplier and iPhone producer in India, was hit by a data breach. As a result, it was reported that more than 200,000 trade secrets and confidential documents belonging to Apple and Tesla were stolen by the ransomware group World Leaks. According to Reuters, the group has now leaked supplier lists, component details, and photos of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models on the dark web. One of the materials leaked by the hackers is a drop-test video of the iPhone 18 Pro, which is due to launch this September. The phone is shown in a gray color and has the same familiar design we saw on last year's iPhone 17 Pro series. The device also appears to be quite durable, though it seems to be thicker than last year's model. One possible explanation is that Apple may be using a larger battery in the iPhone 18 Pro series. Moreover, Reuters says it has seen at least six documents mapping many components in the iPhone 18 Pro models to their respective suppliers, including details on chips on the main circuit board and on battery and camera components. The documents reportedly detail hundreds of parts that will be used in the iPhone 18 Pro models. A person familiar with the matter told the outlet that Apple classifies this data as sensitive and “is concerned about the documents being shared on the dark web as they relate to unreleased models.” Apple is reportedly investigating the issue but has yet to issue an official statement.
    • You do you, I've just said that it first appeared in "home" version before it will be available in "work" one. I use Edge only because it still supports MV2 uBO extension even on Android - I'll switch when they stop.
    • I imagine that was a review or something? My reviews mostly contain a lot of images and galleries, but these are all webp too, but yeah it all adds up on the page load. Would help if you were more helpful with your critique instead of bitching and moaning like a Karen 😂 Because then we might be able to fix it for you.
    • If Valve refused to let them make the case, I wonder if they've already partnered with someone else to do it? The fact that they didn't seek permission/licence before diving straight in is incredible though
