Tony Hawks Ride Looks Terrible

Recommended Posts

Perhaps they spent too much money investing in the board, and ran out when it came to the graphics department. :p

Graphics, gameplay... haven't heard anything on audio but they probably skimped on that as well. The board probably cost them an absolute fortune. Surprised they haven't just kicked the game out of the door as it is and try to make what money they can out of it.

That second-last Wii screenshot is my favorite. That weird Reggie-lookalike appears to be cut out of paper.

This may not be a very nice thing to say, but I would definitely chuckle if this game tanked completely. I'd love to see Activision taken down a notch.

I predict this will be a huge Christmas hit, especially with all of the free publicity they'll get with the nightly news. I'm not saying kids will ask for it for Christmas, parents will just buy it because it checks off something on the Christmas list.

It's got an intriguing gimmick, and it comes at a perfect "parent" price point.

looking at the 3rd gif down you'd think they might of made the actions on the board match the ones on the screen. he moves the board like a normal shove it and the character does a front shove... good job on that one.

well the video does mention some kind of 'guided mode' in the game... but to think that Tony Hawk would play on such a mode....

Just curious any reviews hit on this game yet since it comes out on the 17th?

Did not see the point of starting a new thread, but I am curious to hear that some reviewers have to say.

DISCLAIMER - I skated for 8 years of my life, so as much as I know this is going to suck, I cannot lie but part of me wants it to be good.

Reviews will probably be embargoed till a week after to hide the fail :p

Oh god no, *waits for skate 3*

It looks terrible and as stated the shuvits don't match up in the GIF, whatever next doing a heelflip makes the game do a kickflip! lol

NOTE: I have been skating for 16 years imagine how frustrating it will be for myself and fellow skateboarders...

Game Informer seriously not impressed with Tony Hawk RIDE

Game Informer's published a list of quotes uttered by a man in the Game Informer offices while testing Tony Hawk RIDE. The game's out in the US today. If you're a Tony fan, you might want to look away now:

  • "Wait, that's not? d*** it. Seriously? I didn't even do that trick!"
  • "Oh god! A bunch of people just died! Whooo, SKATEBOARDING!"
  • "Ugh. This board is just horsecrap. (sigh) Horsecrap."
  • "Wait, what? Was that a joke? lol skateboarding, I guess."
  • "What is taking so long? How long does it take to load a bad game?"
  • "I go Super Saiyan. My hair turns blonde, but my beard doesn't"
  • "I don't know how they expect people to do this s***."
  • "Last time I did that exact same motion, I did, like, a quadruple kickflip."
  • "You will have no idea what you are doing. I promise."
  • "And?I landed in the dumpster. That's, uh, that's called the triple-kickflip-dumpster."

Apparently, these "seem pretty representative of the experience as a whole." Their words. Not ours.

AThanks for this AB, figured as much, am staying far away until it lands in the bargain bin.

So there was a "review event" at the weekend, 3 hours with the board and some food and drink @ Activision HQ. Basically anyone who attended got to release their review early, everyone else was embargoed. Shoddy tactics from Activision.

So...

Jeff Gerstmann, Giant Bomb: We've gotten e-mails saying, hey, we're doing an event on Saturday, with Tony Hawk Ride. Tony Hawk will be there talking about the game. This would be your opportunity to come and play it for day one reviews.

Brad Shoemaker, Giant Bomb: Really?

Gerstmann: Twelve to three on a Saturday. Do you really want to read the Day One review I would write after fighting the public and maybe playing the game for 20 minutes? "The 20 minutes I played was awesome!" or "The worst thing ever! I couldn't learn how to play because this game has a learning curve because it's got an actual skateboard. [whispers] They're sending that game off to die."

    • UK funds £60M AI labs to challenge US tech dominance with open-source models by Paul Hill The UK government has awarded £60 million to Oxford University and University College London to help keep the country in the AI race by focusing on open-source, low-hardware alternatives. This is in stark contrast to the expensive, closed-source, and high-hardware-requirement models being created in the United States and elsewhere. The money will be shared among two new academic research labs over six years to help them redesign the fundamental mathematics and architectures of AI to help the UK reduce its reliance on a handful of US tech firms. Commenting on the development, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said: Initially, the government planned to fund just one lab with a £40 million investment, but with this update, two labs will now get access to a larger pool of funds. The labs are expected to invest in the top AI researchers at every career stage, with £2 million per lab being set aside for hiring at least ten doctoral students. The government hopes that this will grow the UK’s talent in the field of AI. The labs are also expected to work closely with the leaders in British AI research, such as the Alan Turing Institute and UKRI’s AI research hubs. This will allow the various teams to collaborate and create new solutions faster than they could alone. This development is pretty interesting for a number of reasons, chiefly that it could create a long-term challenge for US tech firms if these labs successfully scale these open-source architectures that bypass the proprietary ecosystems. It could also give British businesses and public sector organizations access to AI features without paying high licensing fees to foreign providers or needing to invest in specialized server infrastructure.
    • If I were them, I'm gonna hold out until the prices of these semiconductor parts normalize. $1,049 for a ~5 year old hardware is DoA, more so for gamers. On a deeper note, if Steam Machine is priced like this, we are soo effed up for the next gen Xbox console and PS6. With great AAA titles releasing at the end of the year, this just creates more demand...and more tears for me. Lol.
    • I suspect one reason its hard to justify subsidising is that it's not a locked down device like a traditional console is. In this climate sadly if it was a "good deal" you'd get people hoarding them for anything but gaming. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is £1300 here ($1720) for some context on how other SteamOS like devices are now priced. I got the older Z1 Extreme model for £300 with a dock, just shows how insane prices have got recently.
