0 thingsforjason
a hahaa. can i get a copy of the latest version of the internet too? i don't know if you can download a full install of AOL. never checked. just stop by target or walmart or best buy or sears or shopko or office depot and pick up a copy. whenever i need an AOL cd i just reach into my garbage bag full of them. :) i only keep them around for the older versions which some people want to install on their computer. 0 Hawkeye
Well, if ytou really want it that badly, then yes, you can download it in its entirety from one of AOL's FTP servers. Here are the instructions: 1. Go to ftp://ftp.newaol.com using an FTP Client program such as CuteFTP, SmartFTP, or FlashFXP. 2. Navigate to the /clients/aol80 directory on the server. 3. Download everything in that folder (including the media folder and its contents) except the following three files: aolsetup.exe (this is the small download executable that you get from AOL.com that downloads the whole package), msie698.exe (this is the IE 6 installer for Win9x systems), and msie62k.exe (this is the IE 6 installer for Win2000 systems). 3. Run the file named setup80.exe to execute the installer. You can burn that to a CD if you wish. That should be all you need to install AOL 8.0. If you would like to install an older version of AOL (4.0, 5.0, 6.0, or 7.0), navigate to the root directory of the FTP server, and find it from there. 0 Hypoxiaicon
If you have AOL 7 [and in the uk] you can download AOL 8 full setup, its about 39 mb. If you log in to your AOL account in internet explorer or whatever and sign in and then click on AOL 8 and follow some links there is AOL 8.0 full setup for members only Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/83429-aol-full-install/#findComment-921963 Share on other sites
0 Steven
I can hook you up with the latest. it'll require you some download time. about 60MB. AOL's current installation, breaks the download into 4 files. Setup, Comp.001, Comp.002 and then media.zip. i can zip them up for you and put on my file server, if you wish to download them. PM Me :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/83429-aol-full-install/#findComment-923235 Share on other sites
0 poind
Hawkeye's rec appears to be right on if you simply want to burn it and have it tomorrow, period. If you can stop by a Barnes & Noble or something similar on the way to your friend's, it might be easiest to just pick up one of the pre-printed CDs available everywhere (and that way you can get a login/password for a free 45 days too). Even if your friend is sure he/she wants to sign up for the service, it'd be a waste not to take advantage of the first month+ being free--maybe they'd get it anyway? I don't know. If your friend doesn't mind waiting about a week, he/she can request a CD (with a free 45 days/1045 hours login/password) via: http://free.aol.com/ AOL loves sending out CDs, and tends to answer requests in a very timely manner, last I checked. For what AOL's charging these days, and depending on your friend's location, budget, etc., finding broadband/DSL might be a better long-term investment. Of course, doing a free trial if possible almost never hurt anyone....
