Vista Ultimate 64b or Windows 7 Ultimate 64b for gaming?

Recommended Posts

My new machine will come with Vista Ultimate 64b installed but I'll be given a free upgrade coupon to Windows 7 Ultimate aswell.

Which OS will give better performance for gaming? I understand Vista has had issues with gaming performance with many preferring to stick to XP Pro for their gaming needs.

I have an old XP Pro disc I could use - maybe worth have a dual OS system instead?

If you've got a new machine, I wouldn't think you'll have any issues running vista, the problems everyone moans about were running on low end hardware when vista was initally released, the drivers have matured and the service packs improved things.

Windows 7, has a lower hardware footprint than Vista and all the drivers are compatable, so there shouldn't be any issues.

I'd get your Windows 7 and use that.

I would also recommend W7, i hardly use any windows OS now a days but i have tried Vista and W7 and it seems to me that W7 just "feels" alot better on my hardware. Vista wasn't too sluggish for me but W7 is a heck of alot better. But everyone here can tell you from their experience what they went through, since you are going to have both, just give them a try and see for yourself.

OH dear god Please get Windows 7. Vista is HORRIBLE, especially for gaming...

really?

i play EVERY game in vista x64 laglessly and without crashes

and benchmarks show W7 only 3-5 FPS faster than Vista

so take your uneducated vista hate out the door back to the land of the ignorant and naive

Yes W7 is great, but vista isnt horrible unless you're running 10 year old hardware

Common sense answer...............Windows 7. Have you not read any reviews on the OS, how it is far superior to Vista?

That would be a start.....

Vista was ok, 7 is better.

Vista was crap for like 6 months when it was released 3 years ago and only on older hardware.

Vista is now fine and I feel most of the people slagging it off do no teven make their assumptions based on their own experiences with it.

Vista will run any game/program fine on a new computer and is an ease to use.

That said, 7 is slightly easier to use, ever so slightly faster and nicer to look at. Plus it's the future of windows (obviously).

In conclusion there's absolutely no reason why you should be using XP or Vista these days unless you need to be running a program that is incompatible with 7 (very very unlikely)

There's always better. Why run an outdated OS. Run Windows 7 for 3 weeks and report back to us.
Been running Windows 7 since RC, it rocks. But that doesn't make Vista "HORRIBLE, especially for gaming". That's simply false, and my point was just that. Edited by Dr_Asik

At this point I would recommend Vista.

I've moved my gaming rig to Windows 7 this past weekend and the one issue I'm having is lower fps in TF2 and L4D. As of right now I can't figure out what the issue is.

If I didn't experience that odd performance issue I'd recommend Windows 7 as everything else is fine.

    • Limited Prime Day deal sees Amazon Echo Show 11 is at its lowest price yet by Ivan Jenic The Amazon Echo Show 11 is currently $149.99 on Amazon during Prime Day, down from $219.99. That's 32% off and $70 saved on Amazon's newest mid-size smart display (purchase link below). As its name suggests, the Echo Show 11 features a 11” Full-HD touchscreen, which is a decent upgrade over the Echo Show 8. It offers 60% more viewing area, which makes a genuine difference for recipes, calendars, video calls, or any other scenario where the smaller display can feel a bit cramped. The Show 11 is built around Alexa+, Amazon's more capable AI assistant that can handle natural conversation. You can make reservations, order groceries, and find content based on your preferences, instead of always having to give it precise commands. There’s also the Omnisense technology, which adds ambient awareness, allowing the device to trigger routines based on temperature, presence detection, or visual cues. Smart home control is built in without needing a separate hub, and the home screen doubles as a photo slideshow when not in use. Taking all of this into account, the Show 11 is a perfect smart addition to your kitchen counter or living room. At $149.99, this is a strong Prime Day buy for anyone already in the Amazon ecosystem or looking to build one out. • Dang that sucks. I just started using this feature instead of Pushbullet.
    • I use my devices until the very end. I used my old desktop computer for 16 years, my OnePlus 5T phone for 8 years and my LG Gram laptop for 7 years. Even though they are still working, there are no more security updates for most of them (Windows 7 ESU, Android 12 ROM and the LG Gram because I wanted an ARM based laptop).
