The new imac's are lovely, but it bugs the heck out of me how Apple continue to ignore blu-ray because of the whole poor "bag of hurt" excuse. When every other PC company has the option somewhere, it makes them look stupid.

The new unibody MacBook looks very interesting. The funny thing about polycarbonate is that it's much easier to scratch, but it's actually a lot more durable than aluminum is. (Aluminum doesn't scratch easily, but it can get pitted and cracked. Polycarbonate can't.) For $999, it's really nearly as good as the 13'' MacBook Pro, especially considering it gained the same unibody enclosure, the same trackpad and even most of the same hardware.

Love the new MacBook design and the mouse looks super sexy and I like the multitouch stuff but I agree it doesn't look very comfortable. Looks like your hand is going to hurt after some hours of use but I don't know I haven't use it yet.

The mouse looks just like the Apple Pro Mouse and Apple Mighty Mouse, both of which I found quite comfortable, and are designed for both right- and left-handers. Most mouse on the market are very comfortable because they're specifically designed for left-handers.

Well, most of the old MacBook cracking problems happened at the corner seams, where the top gasket met the bottom casing. It was more a weakness in the seams and the way they were put together (remember the old "phantom screws" that were overtightened?) than a problem with the polycarbonate in of itself.

Polycarbonate is extremely durable. It's used now on airplane wings, windshields, among other things.

Which is still the price of the 13" MBP, lol. You got fire wire, SD card reader, keyboard backlight, a machined aluminum case, and a better screen for that money.

If you forever worry about newer, better, cheaper products coming out then you will never be able to buy anything in the area of electronics.

Edit: The new polycarb Macbook also does not have an external battery charge indicator nor an IR remote port, which your Pro does have.

I agree. :D I think I'll be grabbing one of the 27" Core i7 iMacs with 8GB of RAM to use as my main powerhouse machine and keep my 15" MBP as my mobile Mac. The incredible performance and the fact that I can't upgrade my MBP to 8GB of RAM makes it the best option for me.

if you manage to get them to output to a displayport/mini displayport, that's the tricky part. There are converters but they are close to $200 :(

Finally a reasonably priced computer for the hardware your getting... and i must say, they look beautiful.

I've been running OSX86 for a while as my main OS on my PC, always been held back from getting a MAC because of the specs:price ratio

But these new macs are a deal breaker, but i do have one question before i buy.

How well would World of Warcraft run on the 21.5 inch mac NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics ??

WOW is the only reason i have kept my installation of windows, for everything else i use OSX. At the moment i am running it on a ATI Radeon HD 3650 ... how well would it perform against that?

This is the first year in about 7 that I won't be upgrading :( Not because I don't want to but because Apple has become more successful I believe....

Since I bought my first G4 for ?400 I have been able to sell each Mac the following year for close to what I paid for it because they hold their price so well ( well done Apple ), ( imagine selling a PC with the below spec for ?700 after 1 1/2 year:):)

As time has gone on prices have come down slightly, the Mac's have become increasingly popular and therefore there are more for sale each year which has driven down the resale value ( bad Appl;);) ).

So in previous years it has only cost me ?100-?200 to buy the latest version. This year however my iMac is going for about ?700 ( c2d 2.4, 4gb 320gb, 256mb HD 2600 ), which means I would have to stump up about ?400 to make it worth while.

Hell my iMac works well and I am very happy with it but the temptation is hard to resist......

( PS if they had thrown in an SSD drive then I wouldnt think twice )

I meant I paid $300AUD more for the MBP13" when its now been reduced by more than $300 in price. I didn't get a MacBook. :rofl:

It'll run, but at that resolution, it might stutter with anything fancy turned on (or if you're in a crowded city like Dalaran).

I have to switch to my 9600M GT on my MBP whenever I want to play WoW on my 24" Apple Cinema Display. However, at the resolution that my 15" screen is at, the 9400M does a fine job.

A few years ago when we hit parity with the USD they lowered some of their prices (but not close to the same though...) but they went back up as soon as our dollar went down a bit. I hate how it takes forever to lower prices when the dollar goes up but as soon as there's a small decline they are so quick at bringing the prices back up

The new Macbooks have an IR remote port, like all the other laptops Apple has created in the last few years.
