Where/How do you store eggs?

Fridge of course. I never heard people of storing them out of the fridge. Eggs would go stale very fast if exposed to heat (room temps) too much.

Maybe supermarkets put them on normal shelves because the room temps in there are usually low (air-conditioned) but do you have the exact same conditions at home? If not, use the fridge.

Hardly any supermarkets in the UK refrigerate eggs whilst they are stocked. Most are kept at room temperature.

Keeping eggs in the fridge means they may absorb the taste of all the other foods in the fridge, but I'd still recommend it rather than run the risk of ruining the egg!!

That's surprising. Every market here will store them chilled and the general rule is that if you buy it chilled then keep it chilled. The reverse also usually works unless it says refrigerate after opening and you have actually opened it.

Most fridges have a special egg compartment on the top of the door that can be closed off from the rest of the fridge for just that very purpose.

why of course? eggs will not keep longer because you put them in the fridge, it's a common misconception though

The real reason is likely the small but serious risk of salmonella poisoning. Bacteria grows better in room temperature than it does at 4C.

About 142,000 Americans are infected each year with Salmonella enteritidis from chicken eggs and about 30 die
