Swapping logic boards

I'll be replacing the logic board on a older powerbook G4 tomorrow, one from 2003. the mac was one that my buddy customized and added USB ports to when he bought the computer from apple. the concern I have is because the replacement logic board we got is the one for that computer in stock form, it apparently doesn't have any USB ports on it. So I'm wondering if theres going to be USB port holes in his laptop case. Or maybe USB ports are not built onto the logic board, but are separate and connected to the logic board by a cable or connector, in that case, I would have no problem.

The second question is after replacing the logic board, will the computer just boot up, do I need to run any setup?

a little update, I swapped logic boards and the laptop works for the most part, the only problem is the screen is very dim. you have to shine a flashlight on it to see anything. so the laptop is only usable via a external monitor. so replacing the logic board did fix some issues, like the laptop not working at all, but the screen still does not work. I don't see how two things went bad within a few weeks. originally, the screen went dim, and then 3 weeks later, the laptop went completely dead.

Although I'm not really a fan of digging up older threads, a dim screen is the sign of either something not plugged in correctly or the lcd inverter is shot. I guess it doesn't matter now that the rest of the laptop is toast but for future reference.
