Will Windows 7 64 bit play old games like Starcraft?

Recommended Posts

I think it depends on what graphics card you have. I always have problems with ATI cards with old games. Games like StarCraft, Age of Empires II, System Shock 2, etc. have color issues. It's almost hit and miss though. Some times it works, some times it doesn't. I've also noticed that setting screen resolution and color settings (like with resman) before you start the game sometimes helps.

Anyway, I don't play those games often, so it doesn't really bother me. I have XP on another partition anyway too.

Running Nvidia 8800GT on Win 7 32-bit and 64-bit. Starcraft has washed out looking colors or other color issues and a few other games are the same way. No clue why or how to fix.

Have you tried manually setting the resolution (to the game's max supported res) with something like resman before starting the game? It's helped me a couple of times.

However, my roommate even has some of the color issues on Windows Xp with his ATI card too.

Just like to add that I'm currently using an ATI card with no issues on Win-7 64bit with games such as Starcraft, AoE, AoE2, Diablo, etc.!

The only game I've had issues with have been Gothic (first one). Gothic 2 doesn't work too well on a NVidia card on Win 7, from what I've seen/heard.

With an 8800GT on Win7 32 bit, I have colour issues with all older games: AoE II/III (playable but ugly), Starcraft (flashing pink, unplayable). I just tried them for kicks to see if they work though...didn't try to see if there was a fix/patch.

What drivers are you using? Oh, and is it a crossfire setup?

And Warcraft II, and Total Annihilation? Basically games from the mid to late 90's.

Thanks.

most likely yes, I played final fantasy 7 on it fine and that game was designed for windows 95.

The issue I expect would be to do with EAX sound. You might lose EAX features unless you have a xifi card where I believe creative written a program to add the feature back.
