Need a new wireless adapter x64 compatable

Recommended Posts

I have an 802.11g router and a desktop computer running Windows 7 64 bit. Can anyone give some suggestions for a wireless adapter that will work with this setup as I've not seen any yet that have x64 drivers? Preferably a USB connection.

Yeah, I have checked there however my current adapter is on the list of compatible ones yet it causing me blue screens (the driver in particular). I was hoping to have someone with first hand experience with a working adapter give me a recommendation.

which adapter is it? and have you tried alternative driver(possibly from wireless chipset maker )?

I don't know about USB but my PCI from belkin is fine (Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter driver 5.30.21.0) - what card are you using and what's the driver version.... if it lists as compatible it shouldn't be causing blue screens... try removing the driver and then letting windows find one automatically.

Also are you 100% sure its the wireless driver. Do you have any 3rd party wireless management or it could even be something like your usb card/motherboard drivers messing it up. What makes you 100% sure its the wireless drivers?

EDIT:

Also don't trust that Windows Update finds the "latest" driver it usually has the latest tested driver by Microsoft. My TV card was supposedly up to date (but two years old) - the manufactures website has a driver from a month ago specifically for Windows 7. I had originally installed the driver off the CD included with the component and then Windows believed it to be up to date as it had nothing newer.

It's a Linksys WUSB54G Link

The whocrashed report (from analyzing the memory dump file):

This was likely caused by the following module: wusb54gv4x64.sys

Bugcheck code: 0xD1 (0xD751, 0x2, 0x1, 0xFFFFF880059D37CF)

Error: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\wusb54gv4x64.sys

product: Ralink 802.11 Wireless Adapters

company: Ralink Technology Inc.

description: Ralink 802.11 Wireless Adapter Driver

This was a driver that came from Windows Update. However, Linksys on their site doesn't officially support x64.

In order to get the device working to even check Windows Update (since this was a clean install of 7 64 bit) I needed to install the Ralink drivers for the chipset of the adapter, which got me online. I've since rolled back to that driver--ignoring the one from WU and see if that helps. Ultimately I'd like to find an adapter that is more compatible though. :(

Hmm strange thats windows claims its fine... have you tried disconnecting everything else and seeing if the same problem occurs. I know it sounds basic but I once had a USB drive causing videos to crash even though the hard drive was not being read... disconnecting the drive made it fine.

Well it's hard to reproduce since I just went 2 days without a bsod, and this morning it happened within 10 minutes. It's a clean install of the OS, less than 2 weeks old, and this is the one device that gave me trouble from the beginning.

if the ralink driver work fine for you , but not the one in windows update ..... why not just hide the driver that got offered from windows update

also file a bad feedback in compatibility center ... to let them know about you inconvenience .

feel srry about that

edit:

you dont need the extra software that come bundled with wireless ,windows 7 would mange your wireless just fine

Yeah, I'm going to see how it works with the rolled back drivers (ignoring the WU ones) and see if that helps. I never had extra wireless software, just using the built in functions of the OS. I'm still open to suggestions though for a new adapter that works well with x64.

The second wave of June was just announced, unveiling another Call of Duty addition, the latest soccer game from EA, an indie road trip hit from last year, and more. While Microsoft said it won't put Call of Duty titles on Game Pass on the day of launch anymore, older titles keep landing, with the latest one being 2021's Call of Duty: Vanguard. Here are all the games that were announced today for Xbox Game Pass, their platforms, and arrival dates: Junkster (Cloud, XBOX Series X|S, Handheld, and PC) – June 16 Call of Duty: Vanguard (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 17 EA Sports FC 26 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 18 Abyssus (Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC) – June 25 RV There Yet? (Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC) – June 30 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – July 2 Winds of Arcana: Ruination (Cloud, Console, Handheld, and PC) – July 6 From the bunch, Junkster is the sole day-one drop into Game Pass libraries of this selection. As new games arrive, eight will be leaving the Game Pass programs on June 30. Here's the full list of leaving titles: Mecha Break (Cloud, Console, and PC) Payday 2 (Console) Rise of Tomb Raider (Cloud, Console, and PC) Tomb Raider (Cloud, Console, and PC) Slay the Spire (Cloud, Console, and PC) Ultimate Chicken Horse (Cloud, Console, and PC) Volcano Princess (Cloud, Console, and PC) Unpacking (Cloud, Console, and PC) With June drops finished, Microsoft should have a new Game Pass announcement in about two weeks to reveal the first wave of games coming to subscribers in July. Already confirmed games for the month include the Halo: Campaign Evolved remake, Corsair Cove, SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed, and Mistfall Hunter.
