Uncharted Movie (News and Discussion)

In a podcast interview, Nolan North, the voice of Nathan Drake, indicated that Hugh Jackman is the preferred actor - by producers - for the upcoming Uncharted movie.

Desmond - er, Drake - er, North - told the Official Playstation Magazine UK's podcast that not only is Jackman who he'd like to see take on the treasure hunters role, but the film's producers agree too.

Jackman is who I'd like to see. I think the producers would like to see Jackman too, because he has that tough guy exterior, but [...] there's also a lot going on behind his eyes. A lot of emotion and sensitivity on that brusque exterior, and he has great comic timing. He's a phenomenal actor. I just hope I get a part on the movie so I can work with Hugh."

For his part, North said he'd of course "love to do the movie; obviously I'd love to do it as Nathan Drake," however, "I've done film and television and I understand the reality of the business."

Those who follow me on Twitter know I've spent a ton of time in Borderlands lately, but I am also playing Uncharted 2 and for my money, North's work is the best of any big-budget game I've played. And this isn't his first rodeo (Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed). North does have screen credits, but he's right that he's not a marquee name. And it's a shame. He's a heavyweight in video game voice acting and if this business ever delivers a big Hollywood breakthrough for a game actor or actress, he'd be very deserving.

He's a good actor but not for the role. Nathan Fillion is too perfect for the role. Not only in physical appearance but acting style and even attitude. I'll be really disappointed if he's not starring in the movie.

Besides if this isn't something Nathan Drake would do I dunno what is :) note, you've been warned. Don't click it, I know you're thinking about it. Don't click it. Don't. Click. It.

you clicked it didn't you!

Indiana Jones called and said he wants some royalties.

I really do not know the obsession with making good games movies. Uncharted is so good because it borrows so, so much from good movies, mainly Indiana Jones, so why make a movie of a game that is already based on movies. Makes no sense to me but Hollywood will get money whenever possible I suppose.

I suppose one good reason is because Indy is too old to be good anymore. Fresh blood! Plus Drake is funny, Indy was funny in an unintentional way.

Nah yeah good point, that last Indy movie was pretty much a disaster all around. I thought they were saying LaBoof or however you spell it, the annoying dude from Transformers who played Indys son, might be the next Indy or something?

And do not get me wrong, I do think Uncharted could make an amazing action movie if done right, but I do feel part of what makes it so great is it is an active experience, not just a passive one. And without a doubt the picture of the dude you posted is a perfect choice from the role.

Yea I read that, and I certainly hope its not true. I agree with you about playing the game, it already is pretty much a interactive movie which is fantastic. But I do really love the story/humour of them and wouldn't object to a feature film. It'd be nice to compare the real movie to the game 'movie'.

And Neo, I got you covered, cure yourself here. (And no, its not another man ass, that'd be a cruel :p) Although it could be... :shifty:

yeah the game in itself is a movie :D and nice ass replacement :p

Fillion would be my choice as well but they probably would want someone who's a bigger name.

Well, he could always add a few more letters - Nathan Fillionnollongsy-Junior. Look at that, bigger than Schwarzegger ever was!

Conan Screenwriters Board Uncharted: Drake?s Fortuneb>

You might remember back in June that Sony hired a screenwriter, Kyle Ward, to develop a film based on the PlayStation 3 game Uncharted: Drake?s Fortune. Our friends at LatinoReview are now reporting that Kyle?s deal fell apart at the last minute because Sony were unwilling to wait around, possibly as long as a year, as Ward was contractually obligated to pen Hitman 2.

They have instead hired the writing team Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, whose screenwriting credits include Sahara, the horrible adaptation of A Sound of Thunder, and the upcoming Dylan Dog adaptation Dead of Night and the Marcus Nispel remake of Conan. Donnelly and Oppenheimer?s produced projects aren?t too impressive, but they must have impressed someone to get attached to Conan and now the fast tracked video game adaptation Drake?s Fortune.

Russ Fischer, who knows much more about video games than I ever will, wrote bac Development of Uncharted isn?t a surprise, as it was explicitly designed in the first place to have the quality of a summer adventure film. The story features Nate Drake, a descendant of Sir Francis Drake. Nate is being shadowed by journalist Elena Fisher as he searches for the coffin of his forefather. When found, the object contains a diary that seems to point to El Dorado, and Nate and Elena are soon involved in a run and gun tale featuring pirates, lost gold and mutant humans.nt humans.

Nathan Fillion seems like he's on the rise to becoming a bigger name, I mean his show Castle is getting better and better ratings all the time. Yun-Fat Chow would make an excellent Eddie Raja, For Elena Fisher, hm, maybe Milla Jovvovich or Anne Hathaway. Finally, I would choose Bruce Willis as Gabriel Roman, but let him look like what he does now, an older man in his mid-fifties with a gut.

    • Microsoft finally launches WSL Containers in public preview by David Uzondu Microsoft has announced that WSL containers, a feature that allows developers to run Linux containers natively inside Windows without the need for Docker Desktop, is now available in public preview several weeks after Microsoft previewed it at Build 2026. To use the new container feature, you first have to install the latest pre-release version of the Windows Subsystem for Linux by running a quick update command in your terminal: wsl --update --pre-release After installing, you'd get access to the new Linux container CLI (wslc.exe) and the programmable API. Microsoft said that the CLI has a "familiar format" that matches the toolsets developers already use every day. If you know standard Docker commands, your muscle memory will translate directly to wslc.exe, which even features a built-in alias called container.exe. You can quickly run a full Ubuntu KDE desktop container by exposing ports, or pass your graphics card straight into a machine learning environment to run PyTorch workloads. Passing the --gpus all flag inside the run command instantly links your hardware. Image via Microsoft As for the API, developers can now embed Linux container operations directly inside native Windows applications without exposing the command line to users. The team integrated the API directly into MSBuild and CMake, so developers can define container steps directly in project files. Apart from bringing the CLI and API into public preview, Microsoft also said that it's working on a new default file system called virtiofs to speed up file transfer rates between Windows and Linux. Microsoft also introduced an experimental networking mode named consomme, which resolves compatibility issues with corporate VPNs by routing Linux network traffic straight through Windows. One thing to note about WSL containers is that they don't run in your standard WSL distributions; instead, every application and CLI session spawns its own lightweight Hyper-V utility VM in the background. This basically reduces the chances of one app snooping on the container of another app.
    • Google reportedly limited Meta's Gemini access over limited AI compute by Karthik Mudaliar Google is reportedly limiting Meta's use of its Gemini AI models after Meta tried buying more computing capacity than even Google could supply. According to the Financial Times, Google told Meta in March that it could not provide the full Gemini capacity that Meta had requested. This shortfall even disrupted and delayed some of Meta's internal projects. Due to this, Meta even told its employees internally to use AI tokens more efficiently. Meta wasn't the only one to get hit by this sudden refusal by Google; even other customers were affected. But Meta was hit harder because of its unusually high demand for Google's models. The move from Google makes it evident that companies all over are in limited supply of both infrastructure and compute. Alphabet said in April that Google Cloud revenue grew 63% year-over-year to $20 billion in the first quarter, helped by enterprise AI infrastructure and AI solutions. In pursuit of more compute, Meta had earlier signed a multi-billion-dollar AWS agreement as well as a large AMD GPU deal for AI data centers. But the crunch would be short-lived as both Meta and Google have also ramped up infrastructure investments heavily. Meta said in November that it was committing more than $600 billion in the U.S. by 2028 for AI technology, infrastructure, and workforce expansion. In the first quarter of this year, Meta also raised its expected capital expenditure for 2026 to a range of $125 billion to $145 billion, citing higher component pricing and additional data center costs for future capacity. However, this doesn't make the company immune to the current dependence on outside suppliers. Meta has also spent many years promoting Llama as an open-weight alternative to closed models from Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic. But if the reported reliance on Google's Gemini models is severe enough for internal work to get impacted, then it looks like even frontier labs and Big Tech aren't fully self-sufficient. • I like to reminisce about the good old days, way back in autumn 2025 when building a gaming machine was fun and the drives were about $150 when you caught a deal. Yes duh, back in the day we had it gone. Then baby Skynet came along, hiding in AI datacenters demanding more processing power until it reached singularity. End of a not totally fictional story.
    • My experience in the past with older Windows 11 builds was not great on unsupported machines but I recently used Rufus to put the latest build on a older 5th Gen Core Thinkpad T that we upgraded with a SATA SSD and 8GB of RAM four years ago when hardware was reasonable and it seemed pretty fast and solid. Customer is very happy with the performance and will probably get four more years out of that venerable laptop that he loves so much. Another customer just retired his Dell Studio laptop from 2009 running Windows 10. It got an SSD over 10 years ago and did everything he needed it to for 17 years but he also retired last year and is happy doing everything on his iPad now.
