New Console Ban Wave on Xbox LIVE?

Recommended Posts

We're currently seeing lots of discussions on our forums (like here or here) and on IRC about console/hardware bans again, so it seems Microsoft is busy with a new Xbox LIVE console (not gamertag) ban wave atm.

Right now we don't have a lot of details, except it doesn't seem to be linked to any particular FW version or drive model, as users with all type of FWs and drives report bans, while others with the same configuration still seem fine.

Report your status in the thread below.

More details soon ...

In a completely unrelated note: MW2 was leaked yesterday for the 360!

comfirmed fake...

just went downstairs to get the morning paper and talked to my next door neighbor who is admittedly the least careful 360 owner i know...doesn't care to verify rips plays early etc and hasn't been hit when god knows he should have lol

Not true at all. The rip is very real.

The problem is the original rip was missing SS, PFI and DMI CRC's but the ISO has been injected with the data from other wave 4 games and apparently a 2nd rip of the game was made and filled in the missing data.

Sounds like they're going much harder this year... after being banned people aren't supposed to be able to install games/updates to the HDD. About time!

1- after being banned people aren't supposed to be able to install updates

Obvious  if you can't connect to Live you can't download anything, that's not new to this year

2- after being banned people aren't supposed to be able to install games to the HDD

FUD, FUD and more FUD

1. Obviously I didn't mean updates from LIVE. People have mentioned not being able to boot games that have mandatory dash updates on them (that they haven't already installed), because the update refuses to install.

2. Who says it's FUD? I know this wasn't the case in the old ban waves, but this time a LOT of people have confirmed it has happened to them (even with an official HDD). " "

1- That's FW related, not because of the banning (wave 4 and all that)

2- A lot of ppl reported HDD installs working after being banned last Friday.

so, :p

What really amuses me is some ppl here saying "oh yess bloody piratesss!! welllll doneeee MS!!" when a bin full of "backups" lies behind them

Ok but sound off, move along, nothing happened here

I doesn't matter if there are backups behind them. People aren't suppose to modify their 360 in any way. When people decide to modify their 360, they knew the risk involved. You can't pout about something you knew was coming down the line.

It was only a matter of time till games required you have the newest firmware as a counter measure to pirating. And that activation disc trick will probably get blocked somehow as well. Either way, I wonder how many people are getting hit this time around. Hope they enjoy their bricks.

Nope. I think your logic is a little misinformed.

Probably not. Look up how the activation disc works.

Since when did a ban make the console a brick? You're 0/3 on this one. ;)

How am I misinformed? Don't newer (wave 4) games not work on the older patched FW? Isn't that the whole point of the activation disc itself? Thus my first comment is right, newer games need a newer firmware. Also, if the newest ban wave makes you hdd unusable as well, then you can't save or do anything (unless you get a memory card) the system is so gimped it might as well be a brick.

No newer games work fine on the older firmware, it's only the latest they won't play in due to stricter playback restrictions in that firmware.

Newest ban wave doesn't make the hard drive unusable as far as I'm aware.

Just the same as the old ones, they ban your console from Live, you can still use it offline.

Again MS drop the ball on this and ***** out of keeping up with their account bans, instead of console bans.

    • How does it compare to the "SeeStar S30 Pro" and the "Vespera PRO 2"?
    • Indeed. And note that those units are MUCH cheaper than this new Steam Machine...ahem.
