New Console Ban Wave on Xbox LIVE?

Recommended Posts

well, I think that the install games to HDD issues is confirmed (tons of threads like that around the world), so:

If you're banned you loose install games to HDD functionality

When you get banned it must download/set a trigger on your 360 then.

That's definitely one way to annoy pirates, noisy 360 returns :p

yup, and like you and me who updated our drives to 120GB ........

But that's legal? I mean, it's stated on the EULA that they can cut functionality other than Live access?

I think it is legal. I don't read EULAs though, does anyone really? But that feature was something they added later via a update through live and the dashboard. So I suppose you can look at it as being a bonus feature like the other things they added via online updates.

Good I say.

Noooo, Wave 4 does work on older firmware. The activation disc allows for newer firmware to boot newer games, but it takes away all the security checks, thus making it severely unsafe to play.

Some people claim that the banhammer messed up HDD abilities. It really goes both ways. Some work, some don't. In the end, nobody knows what the cause of the bannings is and what the official policy for consequences are. It's all speculation at this point still, so anything you hear otherwise is just b.s.

wrong. Wave 4 discs only work with older firmware on hitachi drives. The activation disc does not take away all the security, it simple removes the check for the video partition crc, which if you've verified the game already you have nothing to worry about.

God, so many people posting so much BS that they know nothing about.

I never said it takes away all the security... It removes the checks that iXtreme has in place to keep you from playing an "unsafe" game, just as you've repeated for me.

And sorry, I should have explicitly said Hitachi firmware only. The guy before said you need new firmware for Wave 4 to work which is wrong. I was just correcting him...

You should learn to read previous posts before being a d*ck...

I'm not being a dick, i'm being honest... the last comment wasn't completely directed at you, but this is one of MANY thread on neowin where people say things like "if you play a pirated game you're gonna get banned" or "having a modded console is asking for a ban" when they obviously don't have a sweet clue what they are talking about.

Honest? It sounds like you're getting miffed for no reason. Did someone call you out for being a pirate or something? If people post wrong info you can correct them fine, but you don't have to be all mad and in rage mode for no reason.

I find it interesting how the discussion of this is allowed. There must be some pirates amongst the Neowin family :p :shiftyninja:. Ill admit i am one, iv got 3 360s in the house and luckily none of them got banned so im happy :)

Well that makes me even more confused then. I don't see anything wrong with either of those statements you quoted. Obviously it's not a true fact that you will get banned by modding your console, but there is definitely the chance that you will. It's the honest truth, so I don't see why you would get all worked up over it...

Nobody knows Microsoft's methods for the banhammer, so nobody is right and nobody is wrong at this point. No reason for losing sleep over what you think is right against all others.

I'm not "miffed"..lol Nobody called me out for being a pirate, but if you want to have at it, I would fully admit I'm a pirate. People are posting wrong info, and I am correcting them, but this is like the 3rd time in this thread alone that someone has been posting wrong info, so it gets annoying when people talk about stuff they don't really know about. I'm not claiming to be some "scene" pro.. but at the same time I wouldn't be posting stuff I know nothing about either. I'm sorry if you think i'm mad or raging...lol

I'm not really getting worked up over it though.. i'm just stating my opinion on matter. If more people knew the truth about it there would be less questions about it or regarding being banned on a modded console. Technically speaking you are right that there is a chance you can get banned by modding your console, but in all honesty you can get banned just as easily with an unmodded console...lol My brother in law has an unmodded console but his mom manages a video store and gets games early, he's played a few of them and got banned, had nothing to do with modding. I'm just stating that uneducated people are all in a huff about people having modded consoles being dirty pirates and that their console will and should be banned, when in fact if those people with modded consoles just go about things the right way they have no need to worry and are no more unsafe then a regular console.

Yeah, I see what you mean that there are some people that legitimately get games early. Though, that percentage of people is so small that it can be almost overlooked compared to the number of people that play copies. Plus other people and Microsoft will just think it's an excuse. I could definitely be wrong, but I would have to imagine Microsoft would look for more flags than just somebody playing a game(s) early. They should be able to rule out the people that do get/buy games early and didn't mod. It's not illegal to buy a game on behalf of a store's screw up (or other scenarios), so it would be a little hard to believe that they got banned for just playing a few games early. Again, I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I'm only saying it's a hard story to believe from a business/legal standpoint.

Also, you absolutely can't say you will be safe if you mod the "right" way. If you read stories of the current ban wave, tons of people always ran their games through the security check appz to make sure everything was peachy, and they still got banned. Some people never run those checks, play games before release, and didn't get banned. It's been the same way for every ban wave. So there isn't a true right or wrong way to mod. You can take those extra measures that we "think" will keep us safe, but in the end Microsoft can read those same forums and attack those same tactics people are using. There's way too big of a following for it ever to be 100% safe. It's just like game hacks. The public aimbots and whatnot get detected in a hurry, whereas the private tools continue to work. Xbox 360 modding is definitely in that public category.

Yeah i hear what your saying. But who knows, i mean the people who are making those stories are probably the same people that got banned from a steam game but swear they never hacked..lol It's hard to tell, but if you are smart about using your modded system there is much less of a chance to be banned then if not.

Microsoft could impliment like steam release date activation, which would stop early release playing legit or not. For those without xbox live silver/gold, memcard patchs which can only be downloaded from ms.

Oh and ban ALL the online COD moddOed controller users.

That would destroy any possibility of renting games, which is why they don't do it that way.

Oh wow would that suck... That's an interesting example. Though unique, if you are in a situation like that and get the game a little early and want to play it, it would be REALLY difficult to look at it on the shelf for even a few days while you wait for it to officially release... :|

so your mother in law constantly breaks release dates against what ever contract/deals she makes with microsoft to carry there products...

your brother in law could phone microsoft and get unbanned if he wanted to, but they would be asking where he purchased them from.

breaking street dates gets you blacklisted.

You're either talking out of your ass, your brother is, or just get your brother in law to phone MS and get unbanned.

MS state numerous times people will not be banned for playing legit games early, the blame lies on the retailer for breaking street date, not the consumer.

AB is right...

People should stop telling their life stories/excuses about how they play games early and get banned. Im sure a call to MS will clear it all up. What have you got too lose :p

P.S WTF happened to DrunknMunky? All this 360 angst i have and no DM to back me up :(

Microsoft will not discuss anything to do with a ban if/when you call them. There is way too much speculation and fail in this thread, obviously whatever Microsoft is doing to modders is working as the confusion created is rife.

I'd just like to say I love how this time last year I was given a warning over talking about piracy, yet we have 5 pages here with just about every poster admitting to the same thing.

Ah Neowin, you never fail to amuse in your twisted ways.

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. SF936 Notes and Custom fields layout now overlap, selectable by tabs, resulting in a more compact and less cluttered layout. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
