is it just me, or does Kaspersky not run so good these days?

Question

been using for a good 4 years, license just ran out on my 2009 AV, so switched to the ISS 2010 as some kind person here gave me a free serial number froma win7 promo. anyway, i hardly use all its faeatrues, really just as an AV, with pro active defense off etc. but, my PC now takes AAAaages to boot now, never used too! my mum just bought a three user license too from PC world, hers and my dads Laptops are complaining of the same issue so she tells me!!

dont get me wrong, i loved Kaspserky in the past, just wondering if anyone else is feeling this bloat recently too?

Cheers G

what is ISS 2010 ?

I use KAV 2010 on my laptop....vista ultimate. seems ok....although this newer 2010 version has gotten more flashy and lots of moving pictures in the menu which is a sign they are following Norton's bloat style.... I have to look at it later when I get home.....how it performs during a scan, cpu/ram usage..

It's not just you. I used the one from the from the party pack before I renewed my NOD32 license and it had a noticeable impact on performance. It received an update immediately after install and caused a BSOD. Not a good way to win a potential customer.

I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, if I ditch what and get MSE do I need a new firewall or is Vista's firewall enough, I connect to the internet through a router.

Comodo firewall is decent. http://www.comodo.com/home/download/downlo...p?prod=firewall

Install just the firewall.

on my wifes laptop downloads speed drop 40% when kaspersky is on

the same thing i've been experiencing, so i turned it off and now speeds are back to normal. Thinking about just leaving it off and using the firewall on the router.

Definitely not just you. My dad has 2-3 licenses of it and still runs it on his PC and on a server box. It slows things down BIG time but he doesn't want to switch until the licenses expires. I've been telling him about MSE but since it's still a fairly new AV he isn't 100% confident about it yet. I used to use Kaspersky for awhile too but realized how much it slowed down my system as a whole. Not worth it.

I hear ya.

Tell him to go with Avira.

2nd behind G-Data in protection rate according to av-comparatives.org, light as hell (~8 MBs most of the time), and since implementing their new updating system, every update is like ~80 kb lolz.

Rock solid.

yeah you are right kaspersky 2010 is not at all good it is very heavy for the system,i recently shifted to norton 2010 (for my desktop) and bit defender internet security 2010 (for laptop) both of them are very good alternatives . now the system is very smooth in its operations!!!

if you want 3 months of trial of bit defender go to this link

actually, (and as the OP of this thread), i gave it another go! It was the ISS i have via my mums spare license. I didnt want/need have the crap thats on their, i.e proactove defense etc, so i done a custom install this time with only the essentials, i.e. web AV, IM AV, etc etc. Runs very smooth again!

Reccomend it now!!

    • Hello, Interesting. I suspect memory and storage costs have slowed the rollout of Windows 11-compatible hardware for some customers. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
    • Especially considering their console sales have fallen double digits YOY for 4 years, and no one is buying them. If they were losing $50 on every console, losing 15K a year is no big deal to them
