Past the above and save as .cmd or .bat to disable media foundation playback of Divx / Xvid through wmp12.

it's for those of us that prefer to use ffdshow and other better codecs, I don't like how microsoft always has to control what we use on our own systems.

I still use ffdshow and such, MF decoders just take precedence.

At least it's better defined than older versions, with both ffdshow and xvid installed, what decoder handles the video?

you don't have to use windows media player just use media player classic.

I like wmp12's gui, it's nice and minimal. mpc is still not perfect.

Copyright issues maybe?

probably but it's still annoying. I couldn't get Divx or Xvid codecs to work either, but they all work now.

I've had no problem with MS' codecs on WMP12. Bit paranoid much?

P.S. Your name should be Chevron 7 (or 8, or 9). Probably 8 though. :)

your right it's 7.

being paranoid hasn't got anything to do with it. I prefer third party codecs for the extra features / more control.

depends, one usually takes over the other. personally I like to use ffdshow for divx & xvid, quality seems fine.
