Why did MS change the Control Panel icon on desktop?

Recommended Posts

Isn't it why its there? I guess some people care more about staring at a wallpaper than using their computer

Hmmm. Maybe they just don't see their desktop? I usually have 3-5 opened windows in different sides of screen, so it would be very uncomfortable to minimise them just to launch some app.

Am I the only one who doesn't actually use windows in Windows? I run all of my apps full screen, always have. So I never see the desktop unless everything is closed. Of course I don't have a giant monitor that takes up my entire wall running at 4000x8000 or some crazy resolution either.

I find working in 1680x1050 full-screen uncomfortable, too mush of head movements :)

I agree but I only have the essentials that I like displayed.

Do you use Control Panel that much that you need a shortcut on desktop?

Also, get rid of the arrow on the firefox icon, looks nasty.

Generally clicking start then the program is much quicker than going back to the desktop (unless you have just booted your pc/have not windows open)... i only use the desktop for temporarily storing "unsorted files" saved from the internet or stuff I'm working on - which I then tidy up every few days, on and I let the recycle bin live their as again its "file tidying". This way it lets me remember what I'm working on and what needs putting in its place.

Anything I need to access a lot goes in the task bar. Anything I only occasionally want is good enough in start... especially with quick search finding any program in a few letters - in fact the more you use it the quicker it becomes, I've got so used to it over the last few months I know I can type in two letters combinations and hit enter and the program I want opens.

1. The Control Panel's an essential? Do you really change system settings that often?

2. Just a tip: If you place your icons on the sides of the screen rather than the center, you can access them while you have windows open.

    • Did Labour lose big? They had losses there is no doubt. However let's look at the reality. The conservatives have 168 councils I believe. Labour have 113 and Reform...38. That's a lot of growth for Reform granted. But that is not a wipeout, Reform don't have the majoring in fact at 76 I believe the Liberal Democrats have nearly twice the councils Reform do. So I am thinking there is a lot more noise than signal going on here. Now then let's talk about the law. It's an age restriction. We do it for cigarettes, **** and alcohol. This idea that some kids will find there way around it so it's not worth even trying is really really sad. Hell we can't stop every murder. Should we stop trying there too? That is the logical conclusion.
    • A game not selling doesn't mean the people working on it did "bad work". It reviewed decently well. It was also on gamepass on release.
