Blackberry DM cannot detect handset under Windows 7

Question

Guys,

I need your help. For the past few days (and many many hours) I've been trying to make my Blackberry Bold 9000 sync with Blackberry Desktop Manager under Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). The Blackberry DM software cannot detect the handset, although Windows detects the device (as Mass Storage Device and as phone) without any issues.

Apparently I'm not the only who's experiencing issues under Windows 7 (Example 1, Example 2) and I've tried everything to get the handset syncing. Some fixes I've attempted:

  • Reinstalled Blackberry DM software with admin rights and no AV active.
  • Manually checked the software's settings in Windows registry.
  • Turned off power management settings for USB hubs.
  • Ensured the correct Blackberry driver was installed and no driver conflicts were present.
  • Tested another Blackberry USB cable.
  • Attempted to run Blackberry DM in compatibility mode for Windows 2000, XP and Vista with admin rights.
  • Downloaded the latest Blackberry software again (in case the first download was corrupt).

I've attempted most of the solutions on the Blackberry website, and I still can't get the handset to sync.

Does anybody have any thoughts/ideas on how I can fix this?

Environment/PC details:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, Microsoft Office 2007 with Outlook, no Nero software installed, no virtual drive software installed etc.

I was under the impression that DM for Windows 7 does not work so well at the moment, especially 64bit.

Yeah I really should have researched this before my upgrades to Windows 7.

The post below from Blackberry forums is exactly what I'm experiencing, however no ones replied with solution. :(

I am running the released version of Windows 7 64bit Ultimate on my HP Laptop. I have installed/uninstalled/reinstalled Desktop managers 4.6 - 5.0.1, in all cases the install completes without error, but when I plug in either of my blackberries, using any of 3 RIM supplied cables into any of 6 USB ports, my computer recognizes the blackberry, but the desktop manager does not. Again there are no errors, DM just sits there reporting Pin of connected device: none.

I have changed the power settings on the USB drivers in device manager, done full uninstalls of DM, actually uninstalled all the USB devices on the machine and let them get reinstalled, all to no satisfaction. Both blackberries work fine on another computer, so I am pretty sure it is not the handheld devices. I have had no problems with any other USB devices I have plugged into this machine, iPod, thumbdrive, external hard drive, printer.

Help.....

I had the same problem with my girlfriend?s blackberry storm...it ended up being the cable (would recognize in Windows and on the phone, just not in the DM software).

We went and bought an official cable for the Blackberry from Verizon and it worked just fine (after testing about five different cables that I had from things).

Try turning Mass Media when connected to On.

Edit.

Options> Memory > Auto enable Mass Storage Mode when connected > On.

Attempted that and it still will not connect to the Blackberry software. :(

Is there any other software/method I could use to synchronise contacts/calendars etc?

    • Salesforce to acquire Fin, formerly Intercom, for over $3 billion by David Uzondu Image via DepositPhotos.com Salesforce today announced that it has reached an agreement with customer support software company Fin to buy the company for around $3.6 billion. Salesforce expects the transaction to close in the fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2027, and the acquisition will not change its financial guidance previously announced on May 27. Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, in its press release, claimed that acquiring the startup gives Salesforce an immediate AI agent that resolves support tickets across email, WhatsApp, SMS, and Slack: You might know Fin by its former name, Intercom. If you have ever been on a website or inside a mobile app and noticed a little chat bubble widget floating in the bottom right corner of your screen, often featuring a friendly face and a message like, "Hi! How can we help you today?" you were almost certainly looking at Intercom. Intercom became Fin just last month, transforming itself into an "AI-first" platform that handles customer issues with little need for humans to intervene. The new name originates from the company's highly successful AI customer service agent, which it launched way back in 2023. This digital assistant supposedly resolves about 76% of customer service volume end-to-end on its own, so the business rebranded to match its primary software tool. Fin's new owners, Salesforce, went on an acquisition spree over the last few years, and some of them you might recognize, like its 2020 $27.7 Billion acquisition of Slack. The last few months saw the enterprise giant buy several startups, including m3ter, Momentum, Cimulate, and Contentful. Salesforce said that when the Fin deal pulls through, customers will "deploy AI agents across" various service operations, which will complement Agentforce, the platform that enables businesses to deploy customizable autonomous digital workers.
