Strange popup window

Hello, I'm fixing a computer for a friend of mine, it's a Toshiba Laptop with Windows XP Home OEM. Whenever he boots the computer this window pops up. Does anyone have an idea what this is?

Looks like malware wants you to solve a captcha so they can easily hack online systems.

This is a virus. Download the Avira Rescue System ISO, burn it, boot from it and let it fix the computer.

I'd also suggest you installing Avira or some other good antivirus after that and scanning once again.

Thanks guys, apparantly it had around 30 viruses and 200+ malware. :o

Tell your friend to visit pron and warez sites a little more unfrequently :)

BTW, I'd suggest finish with rebooting to safe mode and running cmd -> sfc /scannow

This will check windows files - are they corrupted or not.

Yeah, it is a Windows XP Home with SP1 and IE6 and no AV. Kinda like inviting the danger home. Spent all day updating everything. :)

How old is this friend of yours? He needs to spend if anything MORE time around a computer to learn what NOT to do. This is a prime example.but what the guy needs to do is learn how fix these problems himself. Not that I have anything against either you two but....damn..when a computer get's that bad you start thinking.....
