Want to transfer files from Vista to XP

I'm trying to transfer files from my Vista laptop to my XP desktop, but I have no idea what to do.

I've tried looking in the forums for another topic like this, but the methods used in those other topics

don't work.

What, exactly, is the nature of the problem? Explain your question in a little more detail, please.

Depending on the size and number of the files it can be as easy as copying them to and from removable media (usb drive, cd, dvd, etc). If you prefer a more "direct" method you can set up a network, use a crossover cable, or use a 3rd party utility to connect the two computers and transfer the files. But again, direct "copy & copy" to & from a cd/dvd is probably the easiest.

Hi there, so in my opinion the best way to do this is probably Windows Easy Transfer, which is a tool you probably already have (it comes with Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate). Read this article to learn more: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-v...y-transfer.aspx

Do you just want to transfer files? Or also import user accounts, emails, preferences, settings, etc.?

And do you have a router? If so you already have a network and all you need to do is setup file sharing.. Takes all of 30 seconds.

I tried that between my desktop (Vista x64) and my netbook (WinXP Home x32), didn't work, so I turned to TeamViewer, and that worked fine.

Tried WHAT??? Can not tell you what you did wrong without you telling me what you did? What was not working?? Where you gettin access denied? Did you machine say it could not find the other one -- how were you trying to access it, network browsing? \\computername or \\ipaddress -- are you running any 3rd party security/firewall software on either of the machine? Using teamviewer to transfer files between machines that are on the same local lan is idiotic

Thats like calling or text your mom on your cell phone when she in the kitchen and your in the living room.

You have teamviewer working on both machines -- why don't you give me access and can have your file sharing setup in a couple of minutes.
