What do you like or dislike about Neowin?

Like : Everything

Dislike : Neowin is ceasing to be a community. They're lotsa flame wars and fanboys who just can't seem to get along. And alotta posters try to show superiority (over the internet, really?) over ignorant people. But that's about it. Personally I think Neowin should live by the "Got nothing nice to say? Then don't say anything" motto, it will make Neowin alot nicer.

Great Discussion

Don't really have any dislikes seeing as I don't use RWI that much so dont get involved in heated discussions.

We may not have Kool and the Gang from RWI, but we have JediXAngel down in the Media Room.

Likes: Recent Activity at the top of forum, helpful and meaningful replies and members.

Dislikes: Community is a a lot harsher here. Ignorance will get quoted multiple times over and beaten to death by certain members in a condescending manner. They seem to get a high off of that.

Neowin also has a bad case of questioning questions rather than answering them. Not just honest questions, but questions meant to extract ignorance from the OP or just so they could reply how their way is superior, although really many of these questions come down to personal preference. The Superbar/Quicklaunch comes to mind.

Friendly atmosphere overall

Despite being a small country, there seem to be a lot of people here from the UK

Don't like:

Heavy fisted moderators, order needs to be maintained but in some areas it goes to far.

Likes

Massive range of knowledge and experience from other members, the willing of members to help with problems. I can't think of any better support network out there.

News stories are always pretty quick and up to date, faster than many sites.

Community driven design, i.e. the owners / mods take on board feedback

Dislike

As others have mentioned fanboy's on any side, it doesn't do neowin or the members any good.

Any other site and the fanboy crap would have made me given up, however the pro's are compelling enough for me to keep returning.

Likes: nearly everything. There is a wide range of interesting topics here and I've found the moderators to be fair and even handed for the most part.

Dislikes: the fanboys. At times constructive debates get lost in the fanboyism here.

Likes: The site. I mean the way it's made, the way it looks and works, the effort put into it, the community (for the most part).

Dislikes: Fanboys. And I might be alone here, but I almost never go to Neowin for news, even though I check the main site from time to time. Because lately they seem dumbed down, or mainstream, if you catch my drift. The way articles are written, and what's talked about, the attitude and the format, it's pointed a lot to the 'Average Joe' (Christ, I hate that term). Tech news should not suffer from those things, they should be technical if needed, and should not hype some totally irrelevant things. That's just how I feel, I hope I haven't offended anyone.

    • I always thought the moon gets a lot of impact because there’s no atmosphere, so surely building a moon base is only going to end in disaster?

    • This piece of ###### is probably one of the most hated apps that ever existed.
    • Microsoft is bringing a much-needed Recap app to Teams, here is a first look by Usama Jawad Microsoft Teams is heavily used in work and school environments, and perhaps one of its core but extremely useful features is the ability to record meetings. In past years, Microsoft has further improved upon this functionality by integrating AI, but you do need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license to leverage most, if not all, all of those capabilities. Now, the Redmond tech firm is making another significant enhancement in the area of Teams meeting recordings. Up until now, if you wanted to access Teams recordings, you had to arduously locate the meeting invite and navigate to the dedicated tab, or go to the cloud storage location such as a SharePoint site. This was a rather overwhelming activity, especially if you don't remember the name of the meeting or the meeting occurred quite a while ago. Microsoft is now attempting to solve this problem through a dedicated Recap app that consolidates all your recordings. This centralized experience will allow users to find all recordings from the past 30 days and also offer access to other related services such as transcripts and AI-powered summaries. Customers will have the option to search for recordings, filter them, and review multiple meetings by generating AI-powered podcast-style recaps. The Recap app will list all available recordings in both thumbnail and list views. The former is shown below: And here is how Teams users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license can select multiple recordings to generate a podcast-style audio recap: Microsoft has emphasized that the Recap app is pre-installed in Teams but it will not be pinned by default. Users will able to navigate to the Teams app store from the left rail, and pin it from the apps section. It will be enabled by default for all users once it becomes available. It's worth noting that while Teams recordings and transcripts can be accessed by all users governed by existing permissions, AI-powered features like intelligent summaries, audio recaps, and video recaps will require a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. The Recap app will be generally available to Teams users on Windows, Mac, and the web by the end of next month, with mobile support coming soon.
    • It's so stupid that you have to "enroll" in these extended updates.
