Keyboard on newer Mac Laptops

Recommended Posts

Hey!

I was comparing the Unibody Mac laptops to my older Macbook Pro [ Early 2008 ] and I feel the keyboard on the older laptops is much. Why did Apple change the keyboard ?

I like how the keys are not flat but curved giving a good feeling when i type.

What do you guys think ? Is the newer keyboard better ?

* much better. Didn't the old Macbooks [ White and Black ] had the same flat keys ?

Yea, they were the first machines with the new style keyboard.

I like the new keyboards just because they don't let as much dirt get under the keys. I also actually think the newer keyboards are easier to type on because of the gaps between the keys.

The older keyboard on the MBP has a nice feel to it. It's soft feeling, and I'm not sure what it is.

But yeah. The Old MBP has quite boring styling now if you think about it. It's all just grey and grey and grey and grey.

Looks like Sony's keyboard.

I might be mistaken but, in this case, I really did think Apple mainstream the newer style. I know sounds fanboyish, but I never saw this style before the first 2006 Intel MacBooks.

And I love the new style. I'm so used to it that going back to the older keyboard style feels weird.

They may have made it mainstream, but Sony did indeed use that style before. In fact, although not exactly the same, a Spectrum ZX81 from, well 1981, preceded them both. :)

Back on topic, never used either, but the new style is definitely better looking.

Having had both the old MacBook Pro and the new one, the new style is much nicer (imo). The keyboard is the most solidly built laptop keyboard I've ever used, there is literally no give in it. And I much prefer the spacing of the keys, and the light tap needed to press them.

I can't stand the new Apple keyboards. I think they're horrible and verging on being painful to use. (But then again, I'm something of a Model M fan, so what do you expect). Not only that, but they lack useful keys like Delete, Insert, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, etc.

You weren't looking very hard, then. Sony has been using this style of keyboard since at least 2004. I recall most of their Vaio sub-notebooks from the early part of this decade using the design out of space-saving necessity.

I like the keyboard in of itself, I just wish the keys were made a bit more durable so they didn't look gross and disgusting from very obvious wear and tear after just a few days of usage.

I really like my late 07 MBP keyboard, I love the curve, I love the backlight, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that they are silver coloured like the rest of the machine.

That said, I also have the wireless keyboard too, and that is uber sweet to type with, I still prefer my MBP one through. The white keys look great against the silver too - on the wireless one.

When I do get a new MBP, I really want silver keys, I dont mind if they are the new style keyboard, cause I will get used to it. But I wont ever get used to the ugly black of the keys on the otherwise very sexy silver of the aluminium body.

Am thinking i will get the keys painted if i dont have the option of having a silver keyboard on the MBPs in a few years
