Wireless Printing

Recommended Posts

I just brought an HP Officejet J4680 all in one printer that has built in wireless printing. Connecting to it from Windows 7 was effortless and was instantly recognized after i put it my router settigns and the printer connected to my network. The printer has its on IP and the problem is i cannot connect to the printer from XP. I tried putting in the ip but it can't find it. So how do i connect to a printer that has it's own IP?

the printer came with a disk, you need to insert the disk into the cd/dvd rom drive and run an app off of the disk called setup. once the setup is complete, you will be able to print. this is covered in the quick install sheet that comes with your printer, almost looks like a poster. If you didn't get the poster it is here, pay very close attention to section 8. It refers to this page 4 is also very important. Again this all came with your printer, sometimes reading the documentation can be educational.

Go to controll panel> printers > add a printer > Choose printer port > create a new port > standard TCP/IP port > ( type the ip address) and continue with the wizard.

this method does not always work, some need a specific tcp/ip port to be installed, which gets installed during the setup process.
