God of War Collection Review

The God of War Collection is now the definitive way to play the original two PlayStation 2 titles, and for folks who somehow never owned a PS2 and who don't have a backwards-compatible PlayStation 3, this marks the first time that they've been able to play them. At $40 for two of the best action games ever made, and the perfect precursors to next March's God of War III, this is a collection that you shouldn't pass up.

9.4/10 - IGN

Video review

I shall be importing this bad boy from here! Nice and cheap with quick delivery.

Looks pretty darn good! I loved GoW1, but I never got around to playing the second game. I think I had already unhooked my PS2 by the time it came out. With that in mind, it seems like this is an essential purchase for me :).

It's a shame that they didn't retouch the in-game cutscenes (according to the IGN video review), but hey, it's hard to be upset when they did such a great job with actual game retouching.

Wow. I never realized I and II scored so high on the IGN reviews. 9.8 and 9.7 respectively.

Well have been looking forward to playing this for awhile now, it is on my Gamefly queue and considering it is only hopefully going to cost me $30 to keep it, I might just do just that as I will prob check out Assassins Creed II first, but I definitely want to play both games as I never did. Only GOW game I played and beat was Chains Of Olympus, and I loved it, by far the best game I ever played on the PSP. So if these games are just the same thing but better for the obvious reasons, I am all for them.

By then I had traded in my PS2 for a, wait for it, an XBox. So just did not have a PS2 at the time they were released.

On top of that, at the time GOW came out, I was also way more into PC gaming than anything, consoles back then were for casual gamers the way I saw things.

So okay got the collection today in the mail from Gamefly, so I am only renting it.

So here is my possible dilemma... Considering I do not have much time these days blah blah blah, and also considering the fact right now I am really into Assassins Creed 2 and not sure if I fully hate MW2 just yet so will keep playing that too as well I am sure, I am thinking I may be able to only fit in playing 1 out of the 2 of these God Of War games.

Keep in mind, since I have an old phat PS3, I have Backwards Compatibility, so I have played God Of War I about 30% through if not more, but I eventually started playing something else as honestly it did look like ass being upscaled. I did like what I played though, so here is my question...

Honestly a big part of me might just go ahead and start 1 and see if I can indeed play both, but the realistic side of me just realizes, especially cause it is a rental, I may not get around to playing both since I do have other games I am currently into and playing. So which is the more impressive game. Again, I know the Gameplay and the overall approach, I also have played and beaten Chains Of Olypmus, so if I can only experience one of the two games, I am personally leaning towards 2 as I believe I have heard it is the better of the two.

If I can only play one of these games, should I play God Of War 1 or God Of War 2?

Tut tut Larry.

You failed to complete two of the best PS2 games back in the day and you're still looking to skimp out on them  Play both if you can, GoW2 if you can't. At $40 a pop if you have some spare cash it might be worth buying and spending 20-30 hours completing both.

Giantbomb Quick Look

Almost tempting to import this, but seeing as I've played them already I may as well wait and bag them cheap later. I have an itch for GoW3 after the E3 demo.

Also I'd suggest playing from the beginning of the series Larry. Although GoW2 is the much better game, there is some story to the games and it goes a little way to explaining Kratos' mindset. If you really don't care and just want to hack n slash through it, GoW2 definitely.

Yep thanks AB and DM for the advise. I did not even wait for your responses and I started with GoW I late last night. I figured I really do not to play both and you just backed that up so I appreciate the responses.

And yeah AB, I might just buy it anyway, my keep it now price through Gamefly is 29.69 so that is a real good deal, and this way it lets me take my time with them.

I do have to say the walking on thing planks etc in GoW I is driving me nuts though, I kept dying over and over on one part, even got a trophy for dying so much LOL

Keep it. Put it this way, right now on metacritic, GoW Collection ranks tied with LBP for #3 best PS3 game, period.

Really?

This Gamefly sounds like an awesome service, wish we had better services in the UK :(

Part of it is how long you're a member, you get a % off (after 1 year, it's 10%), plus $5 every three months to use. So a brand new game, if you rent on release and keep it (assassin's creed, for example), it'd be $49 for a $60 game.

Exactly. I have been a member since the implementation, so I got the biggest % off they order. As such almost all new releases are right around $49 for me to keep, and I have seen some go as low as $46

    • This piece of ###### is probably one of the most hated apps that ever existed.
    • Microsoft is bringing a much-needed Recap app to Teams, here is a first look by Usama Jawad Microsoft Teams is heavily used in work and school environments, and perhaps one of its core but extremely useful features is the ability to record meetings. In past years, Microsoft has further improved upon this functionality by integrating AI, but you do need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license to leverage most, if not all, all of those capabilities. Now, the Redmond tech firm is making another significant enhancement in the area of Teams meeting recordings. Up until now, if you wanted to access Teams recordings, you had to arduously locate the meeting invite and navigate to the dedicated tab, or go to the cloud storage location such as a SharePoint site. This was a rather overwhelming activity, especially if you don't remember the name of the meeting or the meeting occurred quite a while ago. Microsoft is now attempting to solve this problem through a dedicated Recap app that consolidates all your recordings. This centralized experience will allow users to find all recordings from the past 30 days and also offer access to other related services such as transcripts and AI-powered summaries. Customers will have the option to search for recordings, filter them, and review multiple meetings by generating AI-powered podcast-style recaps. The Recap app will list all available recordings in both thumbnail and list views. The former is shown below: And here is how Teams users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license can select multiple recordings to generate a podcast-style audio recap: Microsoft has emphasized that the Recap app is pre-installed in Teams but it will not be pinned by default. Users will able to navigate to the Teams app store from the left rail, and pin it from the apps section. It will be enabled by default for all users once it becomes available. It's worth noting that while Teams recordings and transcripts can be accessed by all users governed by existing permissions, AI-powered features like intelligent summaries, audio recaps, and video recaps will require a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. The Recap app will be generally available to Teams users on Windows, Mac, and the web by the end of next month, with mobile support coming soon.
