Dana White: No return in sight for ill Lesnar

Recommended Posts

MANCHESTER, England -- Brock Lesnar will not be back in the UFC anytime soon, according to UFC president Dana White.

Speaking with the media after UFC 105, White indicated the heavyweight champion is very ill and will be out of action for the foreseeable future. He went on to state that an interim title match might need to be set up.

White did little to shed light on the specifics of Lesnar's condition, but he did say that the champion has been hospitalized.

"He's in a hospital up in North Dakota somewhere right now," said White. "He went to Canada and some bad stuff happened to him, so we've got to figure it out.

"He doesn't want to talk about it publicly, but he's in bad shape. He's not well and he's not going to be getting well anytime soon."

Lesnar pulled out of his Nov. 18 heavyweight title match with top contender Shane Carwin, and reports suggested he had swine flu. But when rumors began to circle about the rescheduled Jan. 2 date being in jeopardy, it was announced that Lesnar had mononucleosis and could be out even longer than originally thought.

Now, after White's comments, it is apparent that Lesnar is in more dire shape. He is not only suffering from mono but other ailments as well.

"He has other problems too," continued White, fielding a question about his diagnosis of mononucleosis. "He is not good. He is very, very sick and he's going to be out for a while."

White went on to state that the UFC would be doing everything in its power to help Lesnar.

"I am worried about it," said White of his biggest star's medical situation. "You know, I can't really talk about it right now, but he's in rough shape. He's in really bad shape ? and we're going to have to do some stuff to take care of this guy. He is not well and he's not getting any better.

"We're going to have to send him to the Mayo Clinic or to Scripps, or one of those really good hospitals to figure out what's wrong with this guy."

That's too bad. I'm a big fan of Lesnar even though he has some sportsmanship problems. Here's a guy that came from the WWE and was written off from the very beginning. He beat Couture, He beat Mir and I was looking forward to the Carwin fight.

I hope the UFC sets up an interim belt and we can get a Mir vs. Carwin, or Nogueira vs. Carwin fight.

Man, whatever Brock's been up to lately (besides training & usual promotional work) is really gonna wind up killing him eventually. I mean, they think it's swine flu first, then find out he's actually got mono', then have further reason to believe that's just the tip of the iceberg?! This is what happens when you party like a rock star... :x

Ailing cage fighter Brock Lesnar has developed a serious intestinal disorder that requires surgery, Ultimate Fighting Championship boss Dana White told TMZ.com Monday.

Lesnar, a 265 lb. former wrestler and football player, collapsed and was reportedly hospitalized last week during a vacation in Canada. On Saturday, White told various sources that Lesnar was in dire condition.

"He's not well. He's not going to be getting well anytime soon," White told reporters after a UFC event in England. "He doesn't have cancer or AIDS or anything like this, (but) he's got some problems."

On Monday, White clarified his diagnosis somewhat. He also said that Lesnar is back in the U.S. and that he might be admitted to the Mayo Clinic for surgery. According to White, Lesnar, 32, might never fight again

Lesnar himself has not been heard from since cancelling a scheduled bout three weeks ago. Shortly thereafter, UFC announced that Lesnar had contracted mononucleosis. Rumours swirled that he had swine flu. Things appear to be going from bad to worse for the superstar mixed-martial artist.

In college, Lesnar was a dominating wrestler. After school, he used his impressive bulk and outsized personality to switch over to the theatrics of professional wrestling. He was a huge draw for World Wrestling Entertainment.

In 2004, he decided on a mid-career switch to professional football. Despite no high-level experience in the game, he was given a shot by the NFL's Minnesota Vikings. He played for one season.

At age 30, he decided to switch professions again. He soon signed on to fight for UFC. In July, he won a championship belt.

UFC has had no trouble drawing huge crowds and lots of pay-per-view customers. Credibility, though, continues to be harder to come by. News of Lesnar's mystery illness has been greeted by skepticism by some blogs outside the mixed-martial arts universe.

Report: UFC champ Brock Lesnar suffering bacterial infection of intestines

The mystery illness plaguing UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar now has a name.

UFC president Dana White today told the Associated Press that Lesnar is currently suffering from a bacterial infection in his intestinal track in addition to the mononucleosis that has recently plagued him

White shared with a small group of reporters at this past Saturday's post-UFC 105 press conference that Lesnar would be out indefinitely due to the issues.

"I'm actually probably going to fly to go see him, and we're going to probably have to do some stuff to take care of this guy," White said on Saturday. "He is not well, and he's not getting any better."

Despite the new diagnosis, White told the Associated Press he was still encouraging Lesnar to seek further treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.

Lesnar had been expected to meet challenger Shane Carwin at Saturday's UFC 106 event, but the illness forced the UFC to reschedule the contest for Jan. 2. That date has also since been scrapped.

On Saturday, White refused to speculate on whether the condition could potentially be career-ending. Today's report also did little to clear the air.

"It depends on how serious this is," White said.

UFC CHAMP BROCK LESNAR RETURNS HOME TO HEAL

Wednesday, November 18, 2009 - by Steven Marrocco - MMAWeekly.com

Brock Lesnar has returned home after having surgery for an infection in his intestinal tract.

Larry Novotny, a friend of Lesnar, on Tuesday told ABC affiliate KSAX-TV that the UFC heavyweight champion is recuperating after an 11-day stay in a local hospital where he underwent several tests and ?a minor surgery.? Lesnar?s primary home is in Alexandria, Minn.

Novotny said Lesnar may need to undergo further surgery, but would see how the healing process went. At that point, a decision would be made whether Lesnar would be able to continue fighting.

Lesnar sent a message to his fans through Novotny, saying, ?he is getting better and contrary to some rumors that he had died, he is on the mend."

The pro-wrestler turned MMA fighter collapsed at his home in Canada last week after battling what was thought to be a bad case of mononucleosis. The incident forced the indefinite postponement of his second title defense, against Shane Carwin. Last month, Lesnar withdrew from his headlining bout with Carwin at UFC 106 when the illness first struck.

UFC president Dana White on Tuesday confirmed Lesnar?s surgery and said the champion was recovering, but was unsure of his future.

    • My wish list is: A trailer for Final Fantasy VII part 3 and a proper look at Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Not happening, but I'd kill for would be another game of any genre in the Frostpunk world and another game in the Detroit: Become Human world.
    • I tried Wino-Mail and had the same issue with it that I have with New Outlook: My two centurylink.net email accounts (one of which is my primary email account) refuse to work with either one, and sometimes refuse to even log in, even though ALL the relevant information is accurate. Thunderbird does not have this problem, so I'll stick with what works, thank you.
    • For me it has everything feature wise that I want. But boy the app sucks big time. This and Teams. Ever since they made the transition to WebView it has been slow AF. I mostly use both apps in the browser now because of too much memory being used by these 2 apps. Hoping that native versions are being worked upon.
