My screen is not any different from what i used in vista.

You may be able to see the word content there. Agreed. but I cannot and i am not the only one.

A google search for "change windows 7 taskbar font color" shows that there are a lot of people who want to to this.

Is there no way just to change the font color? :iiam:

My brightness and contrast is the same that i used in vista

then i can say im sure its ur drivers..

what gpu u got?

Nah its not drivers.

I've got radeon 4850HD GPU

Core2Quad 9400 2.66GHZ

4GB RAM

My PC can handle a lot. Aero is nothing compared to what work I do with my PC

I ran windows vista aero perfectly.

I am running windows 7 aero also perfectly.

It cannot be drivers.

Its just because of the background colors being white and the text also white, I usually cannot see anything.

If the background color is red like winrar is then I can see clearly.

Let me show you another screenshot

Now do you understand what I mean?

Look at all the bright sandy yellow

Can you read the word contained inside that folder clearly?

If you stare for a few seconds you will see what it is.

I dont have all the time in the world to just sit and decipher folder names ;)

ok ok... u mean ur eye sight is little weak rite?

well it can be changed but using VSB.. vista style builder.

and its not for free.

the other fix will be to use small taskbar.. thinner one.. because on that taskbar there is a complete grey tone on the superbar all the time and it will make the yellow color alot darker.. try it :)

Its not that its weak.

Its just a little hard to read the words sometimes when all the colors are white. :D

Will this vista style builder work for windows 7 and how am i to go about using it? :)

NO NO please don't say so :'(

What will i do?

Is there no solution?

Can someone please help me.

I am pulling out my hair here going crazy

Please let there be some sort of solution.

Any kind of fix will do.

Didn't MS realize this while developing windows 7?

Please can someone just make or tell me how to make a theme with the taskbar text black.

It becomes very hard to read.

My gamma contrast and brightness are all stock. ;)

I have never made any changes.

I even tried the calibrate your monitor from control panel.

All the colors are showing properly.

Its not too bright and its not too dim.

Its just nice.

In the second illegible image(yellow folder) could you read what was written inside of it just by glancing at it?

If you are trying to recreate what i was talking about.

Make the setting to show "Taskbar Buttons : Never Combine"

Then open any folder.

Maximize that folder.

Then mouseover that folder name.

Can you read it just by glancing at it?

Its very hard to distinguish between all the bright yellow and the white text

Perfectly readable here. Sounds like the brightness/contrast/gamma settings on your monitor are out of whack, causing your screen to blow out everything to white.
well dude.. i was able to read it from 15 feet away..

it is perfectly fine here..

the only thing that comes to mind is that ur brightness or contrast is messed up..

Woah, have either of you actually stopped to think that maybe this guys eye isn't as good as yours? It's pretty insensitive telling him the text is fine, he asked how to change it because HE can't read it properly.

On a side note aditya_t90, by default that text isn't even shown so how comes you've turned it on?

well i asked him about his eye.. and he said its pretty normal ..

sorry if i sound rude or something .. but i just wana tell u how easy it is to read over hear so u can compare and tell us if its really like this on ur computer or is the brightness blown up..

and it is turned on by using dont combine option in the taskbar properties.

No it's fine, sorry if i reacted a bit abruptly but i have really bad eye sight and get sick of people going 'i can see it' when clearly i can't lol :p

and it is turned on by using dont combine option in the taskbar properties.

Yeah no it's cool i know that, i mean, if you can't see the text why turn it on at all :p

  • 2 weeks later...

The bad news: there is no way to change the taskbar font color without third party tools.

I know, it is absurd, but that is the response from a MS tech in another forum.

I'm rethinking this whole windows 7 thing. Why should something so simple be so hard . . .

Really, the truth is that both of your screenshots are very easy to read by just glancing. If you're having trouble, it's one of two things. Either your eyesight is poor (which I can't really help with), or your monitor settings need adjusting.

Now look, I know you said that the settings are the same as what you used on Vista, and I know that you haven't changed it since you purchased it. However, the problem you're having is one that you can definitely fix by adjusting your monitor. Please at least try this before dismissing the possibility. Look at the screenshot you posted, and play with the brightness, contrast, and gamma settings of your monitor until the text is clearly readable.

Jesus christ guys. The guy asked how to change the color of the text in the taskbar. I came here looking for an answer as well, but more than half the posts in this thread are about his eye sight. Majority of the posts don't even answer the question.

If the answer is no, then say "No, it can't be done." Don't criticize the guy's eye sight.

Whatever moron suggested its a driver issue is a retard.

Have you checked out the "Ease of Access Center" in Win7 yet? It provides control over the accessibility features of the OS... I was able to change the look and feel of the taskbar buttons quite a bit, just farting around with it a bit now.

It'll be at the top of the list when you type "ease" into the search field of the Start menu.

The "Ease of Access Center" won't help the OP - still doesn't let you change the font COLOR - just the size. Although that whole "Ease" screen of adjustments was something I had never played with before and was a pleasant surprise.

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. SF936 Notes and Custom fields layout now overlap, selectable by tabs, resulting in a more compact and less cluttered layout. SF935 Autotype: Specifying '\v{name}' in the autotype text will cause the corresponding value to be autotyped. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
    • How do you connect 5.1 Speakers to this thing?
