PlayStation 3 Firmware (v3.10) Update Preview

Hi everyone, here?s an early peek at PlayStation 3 (PS3) firmware update (v3.10). The latest update incorporates Facebook into the PS3 experience. By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3?s built-in web browser.

This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.

Additional highlights from update 3.10 include:

* The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.

* The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback we received after update 3.00. Additionally, you can now choose a color for your PSN ID on the XMB.

To get a preview of what?s coming in update 3.10, check out the video below:

We?re looking forward to releasing firmware update 3.10 soon. As always, we appreciate your feedback.

Pretty much confirms the rumors from last week. If you are a trophy ###### and Facebook addict. You are now in heaven!

Woo, I was hoping the colour option would be viewable to others.

Pink here I come. :D

Though I understand Sony pushing their browser for these features that don't need a special app, like Facebook or Twitter.

The Browser sucks balls, and really needs to be heavily improved if they are going to start putting it out there.

It says they made improvements to the browser for Facebook but in the video, the site layout looks broken.

Looks like Facebook Lite to me, but yes, some of the image are broken.

I wonder why the NetFlicks app wasn't included.

No MKV Support.

And why no Win7 "Play To" feature?

Not impressed with this update.

It's been long confirmed that a Netflix "app" won't be out until late next year, both by Sony and Netflix.

Wait.....

* The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.

People store their photos on the PS3?

Also, can someone explain how the trophies work on the PS3? Yes, I have one. I even have some trophies. Does it basically show you the number of trophies you have in each category and then somewhere on your profile your total number of trophy points? I've actually never ever paid any attention to it.

A Netflicks application wont be coming till sometime into next year, this is supposedly because of the deal between Microsoft and Netflicks.

They get round this with the disk because the PS3 is also Blu-ray player.

They've never mentioned bringing MKV support or Windows 7 Play to support.

Works the same way as Achievements, but instead of different point scores you have Bronze, Silver and Gold. All of which have a point score assigned that add up to an overall level.

You also have Platinum Trophies (which are worth even more points) which you get for getting all the Bronze, Silver and Gold Trophies in a game.

On your friends list you can click on someones name and it will show their gamercard thing which will show their level and recent trophies, hitting R1 will switch to a more detailed breakdown of how many of each trophy they have.

On the card there is also a button underneath (or found by hitting triangle on the friends list) for comparing trophies between yourself and your friends for each game.

That's generally it, I don't think I missed anything out.

More interested in the smaller updates we always find out later :p I have a feeling font size is going to be one of them.

At least that friends list is fixed.

As for Facebook, meh, but I probably will use that purchase info - I like people to know when I get new games :p It isn't a dedicated app but if it works fully with the browser who cares, the downside to MS' twitter/Facebook is you can't open any links as the 360 has no browser. It's bit counter intuitive for Sony to spend money on dedicated apps if they can just update their web browser.

Also where's cross game chat?

Update should hit today as today's Tuesday.

OMG now it can automatically spam my Facebook friends when I get a platinum :D

Another update full of useless features, no cross voice chat no new avatar system like they said would come, no way to revert back to a decent looking XMB before 3.00 i do hope more features come that are useful in this update, seems like they ignored majority of the complaints regarding the 3.00 release, keep up the good work sony :s

Thanks Corris :).

Rumor has it that it's pretty much ready, they're waiting for the green light from the brass.

Well, they'd have said it then if it was coming so I'm pretty certain that it isn't coming this year. Unless there's another update coming in December, then it's all over for this year.

PlayStation Europe Product Manager Chimes In On PS3 Cross-Game Chat

PS3 firmware 3.10, announced last night by Sony, does not appear to bring oft-requested cross-game to the console that only does everything. But according to comments from the European version of the PlayStation.blog, it's too early to give up hope. When asked about the feature, PlayStation Network product manager James Thorpe wrote "I wish I could just give you a date, I really do!! Trust me when I say that as soon as I hear from 'up top' I will be shouting about it and making myself the most popular person on the blog."

"I hope, like you all do, that its sooner rather than later," Thorpe writes, adding a little wink and a smile.

Not a confirmation from Thorpe, but thankfully not a denial.

Last month, cross-game chat was mentioned in a quickly-deleted post by Naughty Dog developer who wrote that "the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat."

Maybe the next-next update then?

Cross game chat for Xmas.

This 3.10 is clearly just a knee-jerk reaction to Facebook on the 360, Sony said themselves it's still a WIP on the PS3 even although they're releasing it now.

This is a 'peek'of things to come in this upcoming patch. why are people still QQing about something not being in this when there's not a single reason for it.

They for example said cross chat would most likely be implemented with the next upcoming patch or close to it, along with other stuff. This video gives you a 'peek' of the new facebook implementation and you guys start to cry a river.

relax. wait for it. it'll come when it comes. you're QQing on assumptions. youre starting to sound like the XBL crowd. :D buckle up!

I welcome any patch. im not into the whole facebook fever myself, but you dont see me QQing about it.

For all it offers, Sony's Facebook implementation lacks the broadly custom-tailored functionality of Microsoft's Xbox 360 version, which launched yesterday. I asked Lempel if Sony planned to add similar features, like linking Facebook and PSN friends lists, browsing Facebook photo albums, dispatching custom status updates, and the possibility of taking screenshots from games, then posting them to your Facebook account.

"You can already access Facebook on the PS3 through the browser," said Lempel, noting that Sony's made improvements to the browser in the 3.10 firmware update he says enhance Facebook functionality.

"While we certainly could have made a native app that lets you do what you already can in the browser, we wanted to start off by doing something different. You can do all that stuff on a PC or in the PS3 browser, and we wanted to give our users a few things they can't do today."

What a cheap excuse.. The ps3 browsers sucks ass and they backup their half-ass release of fb implementation by saying the functionality exists.. I would love to see a native app that lets you browse profiles/pictures etc. along with the current features rather than using the browser... Time to step up your **** or leave the game Sony!

    • I think he means you haven't reviewed previous UFC games. Of course it doesn't matter... Every time you just report on something that involves the President even if just simply what happened you guys usually get accused of being anti-Trump. We live in fun times.
    • So how did you solve the problem? Disabling Secure Boot isn’t a solution.
    • Another devilish issue surrounding these certificates is what can happen with old, unsuspecting PCs that nevertheless have Secure Boot enabled. In my case, it was a Dell with a 3rd-gen Core chip (so about 13 years old). As of the last few weeks, it was suddenly BSOD'g within about 5 minutes of booting. Turns out it was because of MS's "Secure-Boot-Update" scheduled task, which is scheduled to run 5 minutes after login. It's explained in gory detail here (this is not my post, but it was where I found the answer), but the short version is that this legacy system would need fairly elaborate, manual certificate intervention since MS's automatic cert update method cannot work. How to do that is linked late in the thread. https://www.bleepingcomputer.c...od-caused-by-scheduled-task Secure Boot wasn't at all important for this particular PC, so I disabled it to be done with the problem.

Flip the new mode switcher to Builder, set everything the way you want it, and save the result as a Winhance config or an autounattend file ready for deployment on other machines. Sponsors & Supporters page — the exit donation dialog is gone. In its place, an in-app page (heart icon or the More menu) recognizes the businesses and individual supporters who keep Winhance free. It works offline and is fully localized. Change History — Winhance now keeps a receipt of everything it does. ChangeHistory.txt records every setting change (before and after values) and every app install or removal, with clear headers for config imports and bulk actions. Open it from the More menu. New Explorer customizations: desktop icon visibility toggles, This PC folder visibility, an icon cache size setting, and automatic thumbnail cache cleanup. New "All apps view" setting for the redesigned Windows 11 Start menu, and the Windows 11 system tray icons setting is now a dropdown with more control. App-local UI zoom — press Ctrl +/-/0 or use Ctrl+MouseWheel to scale the whole app, just like a browser. New External Apps: EA app, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, Rockstar Games Launcher, PowerShell, and Helium Browser. Bug Fixes Layouts no longer clip when the Windows text size slider is set above 100%. Accessibility: Narrator now announces setting names on toggles and dropdowns, previously unlabeled buttons are labeled, and progress updates are announced. Silent updates now respect your custom install location instead of reverting to the default. Cancel in Review Mode no longer clears your app selections. OneNote is now detected correctly for Win32 Click-to-Run installs. Clean Start Menu applies more reliably by also writing the group policy path. WinGet errors are no longer silent — error details now show in the terminal output. Fixed a startup crash on older Windows builds caused by a .NET runtime regression. Config import now converts power setting values correctly and no longer re-applies an already-active power plan. Improvements App icons load noticeably faster and cover almost everything now, including legacy capabilities and optional features — they come from a dedicated, checksum-validated icon repository and are fetched in parallel. Software & Apps polish: per-icon tooltips, extra table columns, an app sort dropdown, relocated search, and a cleaner compact view. A warning now appears when the Connected Devices Platform Service is set to Manual or Disabled, since some Windows features depend on it.
