[W7] Searching inside PHP files

Recommended Posts

In Win7, how can you search got a string inside of a PHP file?

In the example below, I'm searching my PHP htdocs/ directory and am looking for any PHP files that contain the text "$helloWorld".

I remember in XP, there was a registry hack to make it do this for PHP files. I wish there was an option to better configure the search options.

Start

type "Index"

open "Indexing Options"

click Advanced

click on the File Types tab

Scroll to "php" (typing php jumps there)

Change from "Index properties only" to "Index Properties and File Contents."

Does that help?

Also, searching from "Computer" is generally not the best approach... Searching works best from Libraries, or at least from within the drive / folder you want to search. I have a "Projects" library I created where any folders I use for work or personal projects, including code, live.

Start

type "Index"

open "Indexing Options"

click Advanced

click on the File Types tab

Scroll to "php" (typing php jumps there)

Change from "Index properties only" to "Index Properties and File Contents."

Do you know if I can change that for all of the file types at once? :)
