Swine Flu Vaccine?

Recommended Posts

I can't decide if I should get my son (13yrs old) the Swine Flu vaccine. We're in the US and he has Asthma, He was at the doctor today and the doctor said he was at high risk because of having Asthma, but I've been hearing some really bad stuff about the vaccine (like that lady who got paralyzed or whatever)

So.. do you think its worth it to get the vaccine?

Like the lady that got paralysed but then got miraculously better (despite that being medically impossible for anything other than a psychosis)? I'm sure she'll sell you her miracle cure if you contact her.

Why didn't you ask your doctor while you were there?

Anyone, especially young people and kids(wich is what the swine flu mainly hits, older people are actually generally immune already) with chronic lung and pulminary? (that's the word for lung and breathing diseases ?) do have a high risk of at least needing to go into ICU with controlled breathing machines if they catch the swine flu, and a high risk of death, especially if not caught early.

Yes there are some nasty stuff in vaccines, nasty stuff that's been in them in microscopic doses since we started making them and are by now solidly proven to not cause autism or any other disorders.

Yes there is a miniscule chance of minor side effects from the fly, but as long as he's not allergic to it, wouldn't you rather keep him safe than not.

I can't make that choice for you but I know that this flu specifically targets people in the "high risk" group and the chances of getting paralyzed or negatively affected by the vaccine are too low for the general public to question its safety.

If you're still not sure, your doctor is the best person to make that decision.

Abstain from eating fish for a little while and the mercury will leave your system in about 18 days. Unless you make a habit out of sucking on thermometers then this little bit of mercury isn't going to push you over the edge.

I have Asthma (i live in Switzerland) and i will not take the vaccine.

I never take any kind of seasonal flu shots, and i cant remember the last time i got a cold. (note that im an athletic adult, i do a lot of sport and i have a very healthy alimentation)

The problem with flu is the lack of Sun, which reduces the amount of Vitamin D produced by the body.

This vaccine wasnt even tested properly, i dnt understand how could they enforce such thing.

This is my personal opinion.

Imo, you should do some research about the vaccine and take your own conclusions.

The REAL Swine Flu Conspiracy

see other videos on youtube from doctors and other threads on that forum.

Dont base your decision on nothing....get hard facts.

Check the amount of ppl who were infected and died around the world and the amount who died or had serious complications from the shots and see the %.

Good luck.

Pros: Vaccine has been tested to be safe for most if not all people. Helps protect you and the ones you love. Prevents even very healthy people from getting sick

Cons: The government is out to get you. Science is out to get you. OMG Look Behind You!

I loved this stuff from John Stewart.

Really though, its your decision, but with high-risk you are actually making it worse by not getting the vaccine. Ignore all the fear mongering and make your decision by looking at the facts.

Also, I got mine a couple weeks ago and no problems at all!

What a joke of a source

The vaccine has been tested properly, just like any other flu vaccine. Just because this particular serotype is H1N1 doesn't mean that it is somehow magical and mysterious.

The facts are that vaccination is not a magic bullet that is poorly understood. It isn't some awful artificial chemical process. Instead, the basic idea is that you take dead virus, disabled virus, or some parts of a virus and inject it into the body. The immune system recognizes these foreign components and develops a response to eliminate them. The body remembers the particular antigen even after it has destroyed all components of the vaccine, thus, if you encounter real virus in the future, your body responds rapidly and intensely to eliminate the infection, preventing you from getting sick.

The mechanism of vaccination is natural.

see a doctor, and they will advice you whats best for your situation, but in GENERAL its good.......

those who dont get it usually its down to fear or ignorance........

you'd get the MMR vaccine right? so whats wrong with getting this one? there are 1000 ppl in the UK who are in hospital right NOW due to this flu! remember avian flu? that was a few years ago, so im guessing the next one is a few years away and that should kill properly :s

What a joke of a source

Where did i say it was a reliable source ? (btw, how do you define a reliable source on the net ?)

The links had the purpose to offer a start point for a research.

If you look around at ATS there are many interestings threads.

But as usual like in any forum there is always some smart ass talking crap or making fun of others.

You, instead of making fun of others (^ see above) should have kept on the subject and contributed to the thread.

Sorry to the OP about this out of subject lines.

If you love your son then get him the vaccine, its as simple as that. We have had more kids to die from h1n1 than any other group. Its just shocking how people live in freaking dark ages and think science is out to kill them. Let me tell you this, about 8 years ago my mother died of the pneumonia caused by complications of the flu, she also had asthma. She had a strain of the flu that was easily prevented by the vaccine that was available earlier that year. Till this day it still haunts me because I didnt pressure her into getting the flu shot when I should have. The shot is almost painless and nothing bad is going to come from it. All the folks that claim otherwise are those crazy conspiracy theory folks. You might want to google swine flu deaths in children and you can see what all they go thru.

I work for a charity with kids and as I have to go into their home I was offered it incase I caught it and also then passed it on. I took it and I was fine. I had a bit of a sore arm and got a bit of a cold but that was it. I like many people wouldnt have chosen to go get it unless I had to as I usually avoid these kind of things but I had to get it this time.

You should only get your son it if you feel you should. Dont listen to us on this as its easy for me and other people to tell you what to do. If your son catches swine flu then you will wish you had got it. If you get it and something happens then you will wish you hadnt. Make your mind up yourself but only listen to medical people giving you advice not us.

btw, how do you define a reliable source on the net ?

A respected scientific or medical journal (something from Google Scholar)

A respected news media organization (i.e. The New York Times)

A respected professional organization (i.e. American Academy of Pediatrics)

One also has to be able to differentiate between sound alike organizations (American Pediatric Society vs the American Academy of Pediatrics). Google can help with that.

Usually reliable sources have a bricks and mortar component but that isn't necessarily always the case.

A video on Youtube aimed at a semi-literate target audience is about as unreliable as you can get.

go to the doc and get him the shot, your son is in the dangerzone, and even if he get's a reaction, it's better than him possibly dieing?

my better half is pregnant and had the shot, like saltysaltybk, her arm ached, but no more than that.

I'm getting it to as soon as it's available to the general public.

    • Kind of glad I upgraded to S26 Ultra 1TB this year, with trade-in and discounts it cost me €1199, that's only €119 more than the S23 Ultra (256 GB) cost me. Last time I bought it via my phone provider outright, now via Samsung.com I reckon the S27 series will be more expensive too.
