WMP driving me nuts, lol.

Recommended Posts

So I have Windows 7 Ultimate. Runs great works great, Just one small headache.

So I decided to organize my music and started moving and renaming directories.

For example I moved allot of music that was in by Album to by Artist. Some were in My Music that I then moved to My Music - By Artist.

So when I was done all my music lost the album art in WMP but was still in Explorer?

Not only that many Albums now had the songs listed twice one plays the other gets a blue circle with an ! in it?????

Is there any way to just update and remove files that are not found anymore????? Simply and easily?

I also moved the locations for many songs I did not want in the lists like Classic TV themes. At first I just clicked it in WMP and deleted only to find that it actually deleted the files???? WTF.

So now more or less I need to remove some files from the WMP lists in mass???? Any suggestions and dare I say it will I need to download a 3rd part Utility?

oh to add 2 more things:

It does ask if I want to remove files that canot be found anymore and then proceeds to remove all my pictures from my librarys but thank god it did not actually delete them. In fact for some reason it dumps all my Librarys as though none of the files are to be found.

Also updating media information seems to do nothing not even updating the album info.

Did you do a Copy or a Move? A Move across the same NTFS drive should have the content be autoupdated when you try to play it, if it wasn't already handled.

You can simply use WMP's Tools:Advanced:Restore Media Library to completely reset the library and then let it find the new items.

Updating Media Info on the old location would fail, should work for files with the correct location.

You can try having it rebuild your current Library. Go to:

C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player

Delete the files named:

CurrentDatabase_*.wmdb

LocalMLS_*.wmdb

Then start up WMP and have it resync with your library.

Organize > Manage Libraries > Music

Choose which locations are included in music and see if it works!
