The Twilight Saga: New Moon Breaks Box Office Records

Recommended Posts

LOS ANGELES - Vampires and werewolves have vanquished a dark knight. "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" took in $72.7 million in its first day to break the single day domestic box office record previously held by "The Dark Knight," which had a $67.2 million opening day last year.

The Friday haul for the "Twilight" sequel includes a record $26.3 million from midnight screenings alone.

If "New Moon" maintains its pace, it might have a shot at the all-time best opening weekend record of $158.4 million, also held by "The Dark Knight."

"New Moon" continues the story of teen romance between a girl and a vampire (Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson), with the sequel adding a love triangle with a teen werewolf (Taylor Lautner).

Even Stephen King hates it.

"Both Rowling and Meyer, they?re speaking directly to young people. ? The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can?t write worth a darn. She?s not very good." - Stephen King

I remember the times when Vampires were real men. Biting, killing and taking no prisoners. Gary oldman in 1992's Dracula, interview with a Vampire, Blade etc.

In Twilight... The werewolfes are basicaly wolfes

And the Vampire sparkle in the sun and attend high school even though they are 100+ years. One would imagine that they could do something more useful with their immortality.

I don't hate Twilight - but it is kind of pointless. We have become a simple audience and if you love Twilight then I'm sorry but you are easily pleased. There are so many better films out there from the past, ones that actually make you think witness an art.

But what about those who like a whole range of films?

I don't hate it, certainly not, I enjoyed the film. I read the book after recommendations from three seperate people, so seeing the film was a good way to get someone else's take on it.

But then you are talking to the person who likes Sleeping Beauty, The Holiday, Unbreakable, the Terminator, Transformers, Ice Cold in Alex, The Great Escape, Uncle Buck, Brewsters Millions, Nightmare Before Christmas, Dead Silence, Saw, Jurassic Park. . .

The list of films I like is vast and wide.

You don't like this film? Go boo boo to a Twilight-Hating forum :p Ha ha!

It's a romantic book; of course guys generally don't like it. Just as girls generally don't like Sci-Fi, but a lot of guys do.

Like made me giggle for 5 minutes straight :D

Am I the only one that has noticed Twilight is about Fairies not vampires? They follow Fairy mythology more so then vampire mythology. Fairies are often credited with sparkling. Old fairies (before they were made into good guys and girls) often sucked blood (or ate humans). Each fairy is like a snowflake. All appear similar but they each have a different specialized ability. Not to mention fairies actually had souls. Were thought to (different versions) protect little girls or steal little girls away from there home, and have a large sense of pride.

Most people now days are guided by mainstream culture, its not their fault. Its the money making industry that has developed, and ours for being so simple we all buy into it because we are so bored with our stupid lives. (me included)

Precisely!!

Bunch of brain dead people who can't think on their own anymore. Exactly how Firefox got to be so popular!!

Was almost thinking of downloading this movie just because of the hype, but after reading this and some other threads on it, definitely not worth it, although I DO know how to make up my own mind, thusly, I use Seamonkey!!

Please dont admit to piracy on these forums, I got a warning for that, pretty sure you will too now.

The only thing that the massive earnings prove to me is that the world (or is it the general population of America?), especially the youth, is definitely misguided. And no, it's not that 'the guys' don't like or can't relate to the themes of these utterly ridiculous movies, because there are obviously some lost guys speaking in favour of these dull (yes, called them 'dull', for the sake of not being harsh) films on this thread. The problem is far beyond simple 'taste'.

    • I and many others did not vote to get out of the E.u because of Putin or Farage, we did so for our own reasons. You don't have to tel me what my own did or did not do when it comes to the E.U. The EEC is or was the European Economic Community, a different beast to what the E.U is now.The EEC was a mainly about trading, the E.U have gone far beyond that and as I have said before, is now more of a United States of Europe. The U.K did not vote to join a United States of Europe. Anyway, they did not want us in there in the first place, Charles de Gaulle stopped us joining as he claimed we didn’t agree with the core ideas of integration. He was not wrong and that is why we voted out of the E.U when the time came. I was not old enough to vote the first time. My only regret is that we did not have the referendum years ago and got out years ago. If we rejoined, we would have to agree to join the Euro and no doubt Schengen, agree with freedom of movement, we have enough problem with people coming over here as it is. i have no problem with people coming over here if they work and don't try to push their way of life onto us. The E.U has a currency, freedom of movement, an anthem a flag, a parliament, well they are there, not sure if they do anything. Don't sound like something that is just for trading. Oh yeah, also wanted a euro Army. How many stupid rules have the E.U made that we had to follow? I doubt I will see the Uk rejoin the E.U, which suits me. Oh yeah, my partner is Polish, she came over here before Poland joined the E.U and she got fed up of people just coming over here with ease, while she had to struggle. She is now a British citizen and have been for a fair few years
    • Hello, Paul. Thanks for the editorial. It was interesting. I'm going research more into the app and its concept. Of course, if you know me at all, you know that I'd say your articles needs some editing! I a;ways do, don't I? For instance, the article occasionally mentions a concept before defining it, e.g., relays.
    • Screamer is 50% off on Steam, making it £24.99 here in the UK: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2814990/Screamer/ You might remember the series from the mid 90s / early 2000s, this new game is also by Milestone who created the older games.
    • U.S. partially reverses Anthropic AI ban for Mythos but keeps Fable 5 off the market by Karthik Mudaliar Anthropic says that the U.S. government has finally allowed it to restore Claude Mythos 5. But of course, there's a catch. The rollout is again for a limited set of U.S. organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. The company announced this in a post on X (formerly Twitter). This does not mean that Anthropic's latest frontier models are back to normal availability. Fable 5, which was a tuned version of Mythos 5 for public release, remains unavailable. Anthropic said that it is still working with the government to expand Mythos 5 access and make Fable 5 available again, but there's no timeline. Reports from Bloomberg and Reuters say that this decision actually came through a letter from the U.S. Commerce Department. According to Reuters, this would allow more than 100 companies and institutions access to Mythos 5. Reuters also reported that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s letter removes the need for export licenses for approved companies’ non-US citizen employees, as well as Anthropic’s own non-US citizen employees, while restrictions remain for organizations outside the approved list. Anthropic isn't alone with this kind of controlled rollout. OpenAI's newest model family, GPT 5.6, was announced just yesterday, but isn't available for everyone yet. In its announcement, OpenAI also said that access to these models is initially limited to a select group of trusted partners and organizations, with broader access planned later this year. Both of these cases show that frontier AI launches are no longer just ordinary product releases and more like slow and vetted deployments shaped heavily by the U.S. government.
