Outlook 2010 icon looks like a beaten up Linux penguin

No, the icons will be final. Maybe MS might tweak them a little but that is it, the place holder icons were infact the Office 2007 ones.

Ugh.

I don't know about you but I'm very picky about the icons on my superbar. IMHO I consider horrible icons such as these to be just as bad as pixelated, 8x8 icons enlarged to 256x256. This is one reason why Steam isn't pinned to my superbar.

But since I heavily depend on Office, some of its apps will have to be pinned to my superbar. And I really, really, REALLY HATE these new icons, I will, for the first time in my life, have to change to something that look better. :(

The new icons overall sure are dreadful, Microsoft still hasn't learnt that change for the sake of change still isn't a good thing.

True. Vista was mostly changes just for change's sake, and people really hated it. Did MS learn from it? No, not really.

Yes.

You, sir, win the internets!

AHAHHAHAHA yes I see it, too. I agree, these icons better be placeholders, they're awful!

And what happened to the new mail notification overlay on the new Windows 7 superbar? I don't see it

It's still there :)

I agree the icons are crap, but did anyone notice they took a bit from Gmail and organized conversations like Google already does??

Actually they did it in Office 2007 as well but it was crap and annoying. It's much more refined and usable in Office 2010 :)

    • The thing you look at when buying a computer or laptop is not the CPU/RAM/SSD. You are looking at what features are on the system. USB 2/3/4/c, GPU, (not for the gaming aspect, but if you want nice movies, this helps) and other helpful add-ons. Keyboard media keys, for example. Also long battery life is a plus, too. Might want to also mention what brands you are looking at. Dell, Lenovo, Frameworks, etc. Edit: Unless you are looking for a laptop for portability, get a desktop.
