guys 7 is great, but soetimes its just not that great, when i play xvid file(MPC) the playing is not that smooth, when i browse, sometimes my music stutter's believe me that i know my way in tweaking, i'm still not that satisfied, maybe my setup is messedup, or maybe i'm right.

I'm not sure xvid and music playbacknot being smooth or stuttering means the OS is not responsive.

Both could easily be impacted by hardware drivers without the OS being responsible.

I have 4 Apple QT windows open playing 4 different 720p movies...And I am still quite comfortably able to work on a 60 MB powerpoint presentation. And it is only a 2.16 GHz core2 duo processor. So far I didn't not have any issues with windows 7 when it comes to responsiveness or stability.

Do you have any anti-virus software installed?

That's a significantly more powerful CPU than an old AMD Athlon.

Do you have any anti-virus software installed?

yes, i do. AntiVir, but its dosn't work in the background, nothing works, other thank system proccess+2 3 small applications.

well, how can i check what is the root of all sluggishness?

i mean, my system is running good most of the time, id'e just want to make it better.

about me upgrading my spec's, sure i will in heartbeat, but i'm waiting to AMD new processor, code name "bulldozer". till it's out, il wait, impatiently. :o)

do you guys think i'm to demending? with 7 and my spec's?

i dont want to **** u off, but, with xp my system was top notch responsive, couldn't ask more.

with respect.

I have been in the linux world for a while- I am curious as to what program did you use to get those screenshots/specs from?

yes, i do. AntiVir, but its dosn't work in the background, nothing works, other thank system proccess+2 3 small applications.

Have you checked Devices and Printers to see if anything has an exclamation mark over it? Usually, if there's a problem with a device one will appear which could be fixed with a driver update.

No I too am finding it quite slow to respond and whatnot. I can have XP with full visual effects on running fine, but move to windows 7 enterprise in basic mode and it's slow and jerky.

Q6700, 3GB RAM, ATI X1650, etc. so it's not specs-related. (I've even installed the ATI drivers and it's not changed)

You may have some problems with drivers or security software. Check if the software you are using is officially released for Windows 7. Many AV vendors have versions that don't support offically Win7 (although they work well in most cases).

You shouldn't any problems with your specs.

To the OP:

Try the latest drivers for your hardware and tell us if you did an upgrade or a clean install. This makes a huge difference when dealing with new OS.

I'm looking at your system specs and saying to myself it could possibly be a software issue. Did you do a custom install when you installed win 7 or a upgrade? Upgrades can sometimes cause a lot of problems, so a clean install would be a wiser choice. I would suggest to update your nvidia video card to the latest windows 7 drivers too, which is 191.07 http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_winvista...91.07_whql.html Yeah like the guy above, make sure you have all your chipset drivers up to date with windows 7, and install all the necessary updates from windows update as well. I would also max out your memory to 4gb as well too to see if that speeds anything up.

guys sorry for the late reply.

well, i cant quote everyone, but il try to respon to all of you.

drivers: i'm a bit insane when it comes to driver update, i dont feel comfortable, if i do not inspect my GPU+Chipset+soundcard at least once a month, so i'm ok.

software: well, i'm trying very hard to have installed software as little as possible.

i'm cheap as hell on wasted mb in my main drive, what don't belong, gone.

redvamp128 - the application is called: hwinfo32.

+xiphi - i took your advice, as i already knew, nothing, but i went into hidden devices, i saw few drivers remains of " SuperAdBlocker", i removed them.

Xilo - no extra devices, nothing.

guys thank you for helping me, but i think il upgrade soon, and dont get me wrong, win7 is good to me, just not top notch good. ;)

all the best to you all.

I seriously recommend that you upgrade to Athlon 64 X2 socket 939

SP1 will go to very limited testers (Technology Adoption Program-TAP) in December and Connect beta probably February-March. May RTM after Aug. ALL SPECULATION SO DON'T BELIEVE A WORD I SAID. :p

I didn't notice the picture with the specs earlier (it wouldn't load, so I saw "here are my specs: <blank>"). I'd imagine the really old single-core CPU is your problem.

Doubt it. I've run Vista on a +3000 with a 7600GT and 1.5gb of ram and it was very usable. Considering 7 doesnt require as good hardware as Vista, I think its safe to say its not hardware related.

Can't believe this is my first post in all these years I've been around, eh.

I'm confused by the last part of your statement. Sometimes driver updates are required, that's why I recommend you update all drivers to windows 7 drivers or else your computer(windows 7) is not going to run optimal as it should. I suggest getting rid of antivir as well and switching to microsoft security essentials (MSE) too ;)

the issue is he is trying to run an xvid witch he has not told us if it is SD source or HD souce xvid file and if it is HD 720p or greater then his poor single core wont play it that well .

the OP should not blame windows 7 for Media player issues not related to the OS,.

ASAP hopefully. Dumbass IT technician at work won't let me update my computer from XP until it hits SP1.

So ****ing retarded.

The reason why technicians wait until SP1 is because by SP1 any big show stopping bugs would have been found and fixed. Remember that this is a work computer with a work environment, meaning that the main target of your computer is to get work done. If for some reason Win7 messes up your work computer it means you won't be working.

I would say perhaps try a reinstall, with your spec's Win7 should run well.

However with all complex software there are gonna be bugs and with the countless combinations of hardware, drivers and software, so with your combination you may have a problem. Just because Windows 7 works on the computers i own, 2 x desktops (Dell) 3 x laptops Dell, Acer and Lenovo doesn't mean it's gonna run well for everyone. Remember people come to Neowin for help, not to be told that the software works well other members computers.

    • Not ok - WINRAR   HAHAHAHAHAHAH
    • Surprise! We still can't get it right. With the current state of AI, the crappy software, the huge mega-corporations that back all of these idiot things, I think we are a very long way away from SAE Level 5. I, for one, will never get in one.
    • Nice. September/October GA?! I'll keep following it, but won't install any preview or beta versions.
    • Wow, that could have been dangerous, certainly not ready for these things. They have to be 100% or pretty well close to it. Not that I will see one i doubt, never mind ride in one, they may have them in London, but I doubt they will come to where I live.
    • Nothing kills CMF Phone 2 Pro's successor due to rising memory prices by Hamid Ganji Storage and RAM prices have been rising over the past year, leading to a significant increase in the cost of electronics for customers around the world. Many companies are now revising their plans for upcoming devices due to higher component costs and overall production expenses. CMF is the latest company to cancel the successor to one of its best-selling phones due to rising memory prices. CMF is a sub-brand of Nothing and focuses on making budget smartphones for growing markets. The brand launched the CMF Phone 2 Pro last year with some eye-catching specifications and an affordable price. While many customers may have been waiting for a successor this year, one of the company’s executives has announced that CMF will not release a new smartphone this year. And AI is to blame. As Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis announced on X, the company has been working on a successor to the CMF Phone 2 Pro, but with current memory prices, it cannot “build a phone that feels like a genuine step forward at a price that makes sense for CMF.” So, no new CMF phone will be launched this year. Meanwhile, Evangelidis said the company still has several new products in the pipeline, including some in entirely new categories. He added that the Nothing brand will also continue launching new products through 2026. Budget smartphones are among the first victims of the surge in RAM and memory prices, as they have become more expensive to build. The sharp increase in memory costs could also reshape the traditional price ranges associated with budget phones. Apple CEO Tim Cook also recently said that price increases for some of the company’s products are unavoidable because RAM and memory have become significantly more expensive this year. Analysts estimate that the base price of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro could rise to $1,399 due to current market shortages.
