Asus 5770 - Good choice?

Recommended Posts

Actual system : PentiumD 805 (2.66 Ghz) + 3Gb DDR2 + HDD200Gb 7200RPM + 7300GS + Arctic Cooling 550R PSU + Monitors (22'' & 20'')

Hy . Decided to replace my old Asus 7300gs (which also overheats) with a newer model (asus boy :) ) .. The latest 5770 seems a good choice but my questions are :

1. will prices drop before Christmas ?

2. cooling system it's ok ?

3. driver problems ?

4. it's ok for gaming at 1680x1050 & HD Movies ?

5. a better choice at this price?

Thanks for opinions

It's a bit overkill with a Pentium D. It will be a huge upgrade compared to a 7300gs, but you'd achieve similar results with, say, a 4850 or even 4770 which are a lot less expensive, because at this point the CPU is a huge bottleneck.

I know .. I'll upgrade to Core i7 920 after 2-3 month .. So I need a good card for my resolutions & 2 monitors.

( I play Commandos Series :p , Tomb Raider , RTS ) :)

Good choice? For now it's basically a 4870 1GB or GTX 260 Core 216 with DX11 support in terms of performance.

So yes it's a pretty good choice. Looks like your CPU is going to be a major bottleneck though.
