dont use any other anti-spyware with KIS2010

or run them as "on demand" scanners

avp.exe is KIS2010's process name.

what do you mean "on demand"?

what does it mean if KIS finds a vulnerable application but it says "Not necessary to be fixed"?

How do I find out what version of KIS I have. I know it's 2010, but there should another version number 9.x.x.xxx?

'on demand' means, the anti-spyware will not scan files automatically.

it'll scan only when you prompt it to.

disable Tea Timer function in Spybot. i think its a registry protection method.

btw KIS2010 has its own registry protector. (registry guard)

i havent used spybot/other anti-malware for a long itme, so i cant help much.

to know version details, you can right click KIS icon in task bar & click "about".

I just bought Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, could anybody give me some tips on configuring it?

Also for the users of KIS 2010, do you also run Ad-Aware and Spybot?

One other thing, what is avp.exe?

I removed all spyware apps long ago. I feel that KIS is enough to protect me and a good browser like Firefox and or Opera. Keep up to date on stuff like Java and Flash. If you use Firefox then you have KIS's protection enabled by default which is nice.

Also I have a great router (firewall) and I do not use the software one nor do I feel I need a software one. If I was going to use a software one I would use either the Windows one or the KIS one set pretty light.

As for setttings on KIS I do not have it scanning outgoing email only incoming email and the same thing for Instant Messaging I have it set to incoming only. I have the web filter setting at it's lowest setting so I have protection but better performance. I never

have an issue where it doesn't detect something nasty even on the lowest setting. I also set an option in KIS to concede resources to other applications in the event there is a load on KIS it does not slow down my machine too much.

There is a known issue with Explorer and application response (slow) but they are currently trying to resolve the issue. The latest patch fixed part of it but there is still some tweaking needed. Hopefully they will solve it and I have confidence they will :)

Hope that helps at all

Oh nice to read this, I thought it was perhaps just something with my configuration... so nice to read they know about the IE issue, as it is a pretty bad one, slows it down a huge amount.

avp.exe is KIS2010's process name.

You can use other anti-spyware applications if you want if you experience no slowdowns, most of them do not seem to conflict (and you can always create exclusions in KIS for them). For example some recommend disabling Windows Defender however I haven't observed any slowdowns or other issues having the two running together.

Also, MBAM paid version works with KIS, as does PrevX3.0.

It's really up to the user's preference if the apps seem to work together in your setup :)

There are two avp.exe's, one SYSTEM service and one user mode process for the GUI. Also, when KIS updates third avp.exe will appear.

Hello,

the default settings are good. Leave File AV in the default otherwise it will start unpacking archives on-the-fly and depending on their size could start sucking system resources like there's no tomorrow.

Personally I just tweak the IM AV settings for higher heuristics and raise the Full Scan settings to High. I also disable sound notifications and check the setting 'concede system resources to other applications'. I will also check all threats in the Threats category. I like the option of knowing what's there and creating exclusions for legit software when needed.

    • That's not clickbait. Clickbait is headlines like, "You'll never guess what this person looks like now" for example. For goodness sake, take a look around the internet if you think this is clickbait. How do sites survive if people don't click through to articles? How many people in all honesty would have clicked this if it had your suggested headline? You and those upvoting your post won't be happy until the web is a couple of hundred websites all behind a paywall.

    • Or use Epic games and get full games for free. lol Steam and their demos. Thankfully there’s competition
    • Maybe I missed it, but does this say anywhere that the game save bug has been squashed? I haven't encountered it myself, but it would be nice to know I'm good to go. Anyway, amazingly well done game. Mostly more of the same. ...but when the same is best in class with improved graphics and features, then a win.
    • Well when your game flops, you should expect this. If I do bad at work, I would expect a layoff. Less than 1600 people played it on steam. https://steamdb.info/app/1934570/charts/
