Streaming media to a DVD player?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, lately I have been using Vuze to stream media such as TV shows, Movies etc from my laptop / desktop to my Xbox 360. However, I was curious, mainly to help my roommates do the same when they're lacking one of our xbox 360s as to if there were DVD players capable of playing streamed media from my computers. I understand Vuze might not support it etc. But I am curious about software / hardware combos doing similar things. If you have not tried Vuze, its really simple, its drag and drop & plays on the fly.

Suggestions? Other then Apple TV or iTV or whatever it is. Cheaper solutions, but I'll love any suggestions.

I have done little research and intend to later, but I was hoping you guys could give some expert advice as always.

if its just a regular DVD player, the above will never work. some decks will play DivX video from a burned disc, but thats about as far as it goes.

there are boxes out there that play shared/streaming media.

or you could get an old laptop with a TV out and use that, with Geexbox

You seem to be doing things the right way. If your TV is a modern one with HDMI or DVI inputs, just plug your laptop or any computer in and use the TV as the monitor. If you are using the Xbox to convert to analog for your Tv's inputs then you can use it as an extender with Media Center or any number of other packages.
