R.U.S.E Beta

so has anyone played this yet? and if so how is it? i finally got my key today but wont be leaveing work for another 6 or 7 hours :( .

I haven't played it yet, but I will in a bit. I'm downloading it right now.

Very late feedback on the game but what the heck

I only played the game briefly on my own, in sandbox mode and honestly, while the game seems solid I don't like this unrealistic overview mode which the game is built around. I mean, not saying they should change it but it's definitely not my style - I want proper sized units and realistic combat, not this tactical overview sort of combat. I'd love to see the engine used in a realistic combat game, because it is an amazing engine.

So seems like a great game but doesn't suit me :)

thats why i only played 1 game with just me for a couple minutes, wont be playing it again. it will be uninstalled once i get home

Because, I like testing out single player aspects before I test out the multiplayer aspects of a game, unless that game is an MMO first & foremost.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Off-topic: Now only if I could get Valve to give me a working key for Half-Life 2, because the used copy from a game store and it was missing the key, so I can't play it. :(

Guys, there are NPC skirmishes available in the game, and they do count towards your online ranking. Trust me, there is methods in the game to learn how it plays (however crude and rough they are). It being MP focused is actually very clever. The best way to find OP units and abilities is to have real people play against each other. It brings out the most variety in strategies and gets the broken parts of the game to the surface faster(since people will use them to win).

Regardless, this is definitely the most balanced Beta I have ever played. Only a few units and powers are really overpowered, and that is a minor overpowering (rockets for the US, blitz + bombers). I recommend you guys figure it out. It is entirely worth the time.

Steam has the beta for all users free, but I'm not much into games like that. Anyone know how good it is?

Reading and comprehension of this whole thread just went way over your head didn't it?

Give the game a try. It may be for you, it may not.

RUSE is a very, very unique RTS game.

I'm still surprised there isn't more talk about this game. I just had one of the most epic matches yet, and I lost. This game definitely rewards proper strategic and tactical coordination. I want to ask what other people play as in the game to get this thread rolling again:

Italy - Get as much resource as possible as quickly as possible, then research AA and place down AA/Anti-Tank emplacements. Start building small AA bunchess and placing them in the trees. Next step is shoving out as many light tanks as I can (usually around 10) to guard my base from infantry drops and rushes as well as defend my emplacements from the same kind of unit (they lack any infantry defense). Once that is done I start pooling money from administrative structures, then push resources into heavy artillery and jumpo tanks (thank god jumbos are $25 for italy) then research mobile AA.

France - Put down AA/Tank emplacements and afterwards put Tank/Infantry emplacements (love that flamethrower). Pump out as much heavy artillery as I can as soon as possible then get some AA units out as well. Once enough artillery is out to defend me and assist teamates in line defense I build research jumbos and then start pooling them (freaking expensive and slow though). This is mostly my team defense side, while Italy is my personal defense side. Regardless, I turtle.

Yea I like this game too, but the Ubisoft online requirement DRM pulled it off my buy list sadly :(

Frankly for a MP oriented game I don't see any problem with the Ubisoft DRM honestly. And RUSE is more or less MP only (is there even a SP to it?) and a very unique MP RTS to say the least. I'd certainly give it a shot before shooting it down due to Ubisoft's DRM nonsense.

Yea the multiplayer nature means it probably won't affect me day to day, but I worry about the longterm effects. I don't like the idea that they can drop server support when RUSE 2 comes out... As I still play some old RTS games with my family on occasion like Rise of Nations :).
