Star Wars: The Old Republic Discussion

Recommended Posts

I must say after E3, I was VERY unimpressed. I mean the game still looks good, and they announced that every player will get their own ship, but they wouldn't say if this was just for "player housing" or could you actually fly the ship around and do combat with it, etc.

They also would not show us or answer, if the game was open world. We all know Bioware makes amazing games, but they also set you on a controlled patch and you can not stray off of, be it within the story, or even walking around the planet.

Exactly, my thoughts are they have done what they do best and created a great indepth single player game, then gone, oh this is meant to be an mmo.....an mmo that isnt largely open world seems pretty 'eh' to me.

Still, that 6 minute CG trailer was godlike. Seriously, Lucas should just give the Blur Studio guys the money and let them redo the prequels and hell make the final trilogy like that. In that 6 minute trailer, there was more action and storyline than in the entire prequels put together practically :D

Sure, the game looks nothing like that. But hey, what do you expext when you get $1 Million to just do a CG trailer!

You guys might wanna start checking your email today and tomorrow. Apparently invites for a closed beta test for the 25th-27th is going on right now. VE3D confirmed on the TOR forums that they are indeed getting ready for a closed beta event and are sending out invites.

Also something else to keep us busy for awhile while we wait for Star wars is Star Craft 2. It recently has come out for the PC and it looks great. If you liked Star craft than you will LOVE Star Craft 2. I mean, it's pretty much the same game as Star Craft 1...but with much better graphics! and they go far more in depth with the storyline. The sound affects, game play, graphics, and all the new content like the new Weapons, units, buildings, and maps is just amazing.

Also I loved the trailer, I mean for 2 minutes and 30 seconds I forgot I was watching the trailer to a video game and was thinking it was more of a CG graphic Movie.

If anyone is ever interested in looking at the trailer you should check out the link below

At any rate I'm VERY interested too see how they will go about with the Star Wars the Old republic. Just looking at the Dozen upon Dozen of Screen shots of this game. We can all see that already we are will be able to admire the beautiful Art work put into the game. The plants, animals, and cities In Star Wars look like they will all be stunning.

Really for myself the Two questions that come to mind that I'm interested in is, how in depth will the Character creation be? I mean with all the different races in Star wars as it is, I'm very interested to see how that is going to play out. I'm also interested to see how we will be able to Travel from planet to planet. Is it going be like WoW and we board some awesome looking Ship than wait for 10 minutes? Or is it just going to be a 30 second load screen and POOF we're here?

Something I have noticed was they have shown us 2 different starships. First one being the Fury, and the 2nd being the Defender. Will we get to fly these like a flight simulator and have intergalactic Dog fights in space? Or are these just neat looking ships for us to travel too different planets? At any rate I'm looking Very forward to this game and can't wait to see how well it does.

so i've been lurking and posting on the guild section of swtor forums for a few weeks now, and last week posted in hte looking for guild thread for me and my bro.

so far have gotten a couple invites from mainly sith guilds despite saying i want to go republic. after talking about it a bit while playing invictus with smeltn the other night, it sounds like he wants to go sith, so if i want to get him playing with me, i might go that way(vindictus has been a lot of fun witht he 3-4 of us so far).

there are some pretty decent casual but on task guilds so far, although some of them are a little large for my tastes. i'm not an endgame pve''r myself but my bro likes to do it sometimes so i am keeping that in mind. as well i like the evil RP angle some of these guys are going, and i had planned to see if i could go darkside on my JK main(kinda annakin style).

if we end up going sith though, i might have some fun and see if i can go light side for teh lolz(and deeper RPer-it's always fun to play opposites and conflicted, human characters), which seems like it might fit in overall with the main guild trying to get me to try out's RP.

the only issue there might be, maybe, is me and my bro had huge problems with bad RP and RPe elitist and RPer QQ in wow, on our RP pvp server. plus we are mainly light RPers, so we often ooc in text, and always in vent. though we always play our characters to our RP stories, even on no rp servers(we really never needed RP rulesets to RP either)

anyways, anyone got any thoughts on swtor guilds?

no i've been looking around at guilds and sounding them out. i probably won't actually join one until a couple weeks before launch, ie during open beta.

the most decent guild that responded to my post had some pretty strict rules, especially on activity, which weren't compatible with my bro's activity style. as he likes to go afk for a few weeks at a time without notice and hates forums, and they require notice for absences of up to 14days(to get a leave of absence from them for longer you have to be military) and they do roll call threads that if you fail to respond within a month they kick you from guild.

otherwise they sounded great.

also in the thread i made on their forums, i was responded to with some contradictions about some minor things, one guy got called and ass by two other guys, and the leader called them all out in teh last post in the thread before closing it(he closed it because i had made my decision and said so about not joining). the leader also said due to my speculation that we might want to get smeltn's crew from wow into the guild that we wouldn't be allowed to, which in the rules is because they don't allow cliques or something, unless they are endorced by leadership, which is a little strange.

so i basically took that to mean, that if i ended up grouping regularly with 2 other people and my bro, we could get in trouble for having some kind of unendorsed clique in the guild or that they don't want people who know each other previously to apply or something like that.

overall i don't like having to deal with a huge rules set for every little thing in the guild, and some of their rules were contradictory at best.

so i'll probably end up forming my own guild, or helping someone else form a small guild, with lax rules that officers can deal with on a case by case basis if problems do arise, and play casually and not worry if someone goes afk for a few weeks before kicking them, and being able to play and group with people i like instead of applying to some sub guild in advance and fighting for my spot with them constantly.

overall you're right in that it is premature to give swtor guilds too much thought, but i happen to have the time now and would like to stay in touch with certain people in advance of swtor if they have an interest and so on.

    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.
